Phosphatidyl Serine Ingredients & Drug Interactions
What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking Phosphatidyl Serine against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. It’s educational information from our licensed clinical databases and the clinical staff at HelloPharmacist — not medical advice — and we don’t sell or endorse products. Our editorial policy

HelloPharmacist Scorecard of Phosphatidyl Serine by Natural BioScience
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: phosphatidylserine, a naturally occurring compound found in cell membranes. The softgel capsule is an inactive ingredient used to deliver the phosphatidylserine.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
Phosphatidylserine is possibly effective for age-related cognitive decline and Alzheimer disease, based on the evidence we hold. For athletic performance, attention deficit-hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), general cognitive function, and dementia, the evidence isn't established well enough to rate it one way or the other.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Phosphatidylserine is generally well tolerated in studies, though long-term safety hasn't been fully established. The most common side effects are flatulence, gastrointestinal upset, headache, insomnia, and nausea.
Higher doses—particularly around 600 mg—are more likely to cause insomnia, and doses of 200–300 mg per day may trigger stomach upset or nausea. There isn't enough safety data to recommend phosphatidylserine during pregnancy or while breastfeeding.
Talk with your doctor or pharmacist about whether it's right for your situation.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Check before starting if you take anticholinergic drugs (like antihistamines, certain motion sickness or Parkinson's medications, or urinary antispasmodics) or cholinergic drugs (like some dementia or myasthenia gravis treatments). Phosphatidylserine might theoretically reduce the effectiveness of anticholinergic drugs or add to the effects of cholinergic ones.
Your doctor or pharmacist can review your specific medications.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with some supporting evidence for its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Phosphatidyl Serine by Natural BioScience may be worth considering if you're looking into support for age-related cognitive changes or Alzheimer disease. If you take anticholinergic or cholinergic medications, check your exact prescriptions with your doctor or pharmacist before you start, since it could theoretically affect how they work.
Start with a lower dose to watch for stomach upset or sleep issues, and discuss this supplement with your own healthcare provider.

Phosphatidyl Serine by Natural BioScience Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Phosphatidyl Serine by Natural BioScience through its phosphatidylserine content can interact with two classes of medications.
The most serious concern is with anticholinergic drugs — medications that block acetylcholine activity, such as some antihistamines, urinary antispasmodics, and certain motion sickness or Parkinson's medications. Phosphatidylserine may theoretically increase acetylcholine levels, which could weaken how these drugs work.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
The second concern is with cholinergic drugs — medications that enhance acetylcholine activity, including some dementia and myasthenia gravis treatments. Phosphatidylserine might add to their effects, potentially causing too much cholinergic activity.
Both interactions are rated Moderate severity.
Additionally, we hold no interaction data for the inactive ingredients. Altogether, these interactions span 219 individual medications.
Use the search tool on this page to check whether any of your current prescriptions fall into either category before you start.
