What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: potassium (99 mg per tablet, supplied as potassium gluconate). Potassium is an essential mineral your body needs for nerve and muscle function, including heart rhythm.
The tablet also contains several inactive ingredients — dextrose, maltodextrin, stearic acid, silicon dioxide, and magnesium stearate — which are fillers, binders, and flow agents that help form and stabilize the tablet.
Does it work?
Couldn't assess
We hold no effectiveness data for potassium gluconate in the information provided. That doesn't mean it doesn't work — potassium is essential for your body — but established clinical trial evidence for this specific product's claims isn't in our records.
Your doctor is the right person to advise whether you need a potassium supplement and at what dose.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Potassium from food is generally safe for most people. Supplements, however, can raise your blood levels to dangerous heights, especially if you have kidney disease or take certain medications.
Most common side effects from oral potassium are gastrointestinal: stomach pain, belching, diarrhea, gas, nausea, and vomiting. Rarely, very high potassium levels can cause serious heart problems — irregular heartbeat, heart block, low blood pressure, or even cardiac arrest — and confusion.
During pregnancy, dietary potassium is fine, but supplements should only be used under medical guidance. The same applies to breastfeeding: check with your doctor before using a potassium supplement.
If you have kidney disease or heart problems, or take any blood pressure or heart medication, talk with your doctor or pharmacist before starting this product.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before taking this product, double-check with your doctor or pharmacist if you're on any potassium-sparing diuretics (water pills that keep potassium in your body), ACE inhibitors, or angiotensin receptor blockers (ARBs) — all three carry a Moderate risk of dangerously high blood potassium when combined with potassium supplements. These 62 medications span these three major categories.
Use the search tool on this page to look up your exact prescriptions.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no assessable stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Potassium Gluconate 99 mg is a straightforward single-ingredient supplement, but it's not one to start on your own if you take blood pressure or heart medications. Anyone on a potassium-sparing diuretic, ACE inhibitor, or ARB needs their doctor's green light first.
If you have kidney disease, that's another reason to check with your doctor. Use this page to review your medications, then discuss with your own healthcare provider whether this supplement makes sense for you.

Potassium Gluconate 99 mg by GNC Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
GNC Potassium Gluconate 99 mg interacts with several blood pressure and heart medications through its potassium content.
The most serious concern is with potassium-sparing diuretics (water pills that preserve potassium), ACE inhibitors, and angiotensin receptor blockers (ARBs) — all carry a Moderate risk of dangerously high blood potassium levels (hyperkalemia) when combined with potassium supplements. These drugs already reduce how much potassium your body excretes, so adding a supplement on top raises the risk significantly.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
ACE inhibitors and ARBs work by blocking a hormone system that normally helps your kidneys excrete potassium; potassium-sparing diuretics do the same by design. If you take any of these medications, using a potassium supplement — even at this dose — requires your doctor's approval and close monitoring.
Altogether, these interactions span 62 individual medications. Before you start this product, check your exact prescription medications against the tool on this page, and talk with your doctor or pharmacist about whether a supplement is right for you.

Potassium
Ace Inhibitors (Aceis)
Using ACEIs with high doses of potassium increases the risk of hyperkalemia.
ACEIs block the actions of the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system and reduce potassium excretion. Concomitant use of these drugs with potassium supplements increases the risk of hyperkalemia. However, concomitant use of these drugs with moderate dietary potassium intake (about 3775-5200 mg daily) does not increase serum potassium levels.
Angiotensin Receptor Blockers (Arbs)
Using ARBs with high doses of potassium increases the risk of hyperkalemia.
ARBs block the actions of the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system and reduce potassium excretion. Concomitant use of these drugs with potassium supplements increases the risk of hyperkalemia. However, concomitant use of these drugs with moderate dietary potassium intake (about 3775-5200 mg daily) does not increase serum potassium levels.
Potassium-Sparing Diuretics
Concomitant use increases the risk of hyperkalemia.
Using potassium-sparing diuretics with potassium supplements increases the risk of hyperkalemia.
