Pro-5 Ingredients & Drug Interactions
by Klaire Labs
What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking Pro-5 against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. It’s educational information from our licensed clinical databases and the clinical staff at HelloPharmacist — not medical advice — and we don’t sell or endorse products. Our editorial policy

HelloPharmacist Scorecard of Pro-5 by Klaire Labs
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Low disclosure
Pro-5 contains five active probiotic ingredients: three Lactobacillus strains (L. acidophilus, L. bulgaricus, and L. rhamnosus), one Bifidobacterium strain (B. bifidum), and Streptococcus thermophilus. These are live microorganisms meant to support your gut flora.
The product also contains inactive ingredients — hydroxypropylmethylcellulose (a capsule material), water, and L-leucine — which help deliver and stabilize the active cultures.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
The evidence for these probiotics is mixed. L. acidophilus and B. bifidum are both possibly effective for irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and possibly effective for antibiotic-associated diarrhea.
L. acidophilus is also possibly effective for Helicobacter pylori infection and bacterial vaginosis. Streptococcus thermophilus, however, hasn't been studied enough to establish whether it works for its intended uses — the data we hold shows insufficient evidence for antibiotic-associated diarrhea, bacterial vaginosis, fatty liver disease, constipation, diabetes, and diabetic kidney disease.
Overall, if you're taking this for IBS or antibiotic-related diarrhea, there's some scientific support, but results vary by person.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
L. acidophilus and B. bifidum are generally well tolerated in healthy adults and children, though people with weakened immune systems should be cautious before starting. Gastrointestinal side effects like bloating, flatulence, abdominal discomfort, and diarrhea can occur when taking probiotics, but these are uncommon.
In rare cases, live probiotic organisms have caused serious infections (bacteremia, sepsis, or abscess) in people who are severely ill or have compromised immune systems; the risk in otherwise healthy people appears very low. Pregnancy: L. acidophilus and B. bifidum are rated possibly safe in pregnancy, and Streptococcus thermophilus is also rated possibly safe, but the data are limited — talk with your doctor or pharmacist before taking this during pregnancy or while breastfeeding.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
If you take antibiotics, check with your doctor or pharmacist before starting Pro-5. Antibiotics at Moderate severity can reduce the probiotic's effectiveness by killing the live organisms.
There are no other documented drug interactions for the ingredients we could check.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFormula with limited ingredient disclosure with some supporting evidence for its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Pro-5 is a probiotic supplement that may help with IBS and antibiotic-related diarrhea, especially if you're healthy and your immune system is intact. The main caution is timing: if you're on antibiotics, separate when you take them from when you take this product, so the antibiotics don't kill the beneficial organisms.
Before starting, check your exact medications and talk it over with your doctor or pharmacist — especially if you have a weakened immune system, are pregnant, or are breastfeeding.

Pro-5 by Klaire Labs Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Pro-5 by Klaire Labs is a five-ingredient probiotic that interacts with antibiotics through three of its bacterial strains.
The most serious concern is Moderate: taking this product with antibiotics might reduce how well the probiotics work, because antibiotics can kill the live organisms in the capsule.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
The affected ingredient is Lactobacillus acidophilus, Bifidobacterium bifidum, and Streptococcus thermophilus — all interact with antibiotic drugs at Moderate severity. Since these probiotics are made of living microorganisms, antibiotics taken at the same time may eliminate enough of them to reduce the supplement's effectiveness.
Altogether, these interactions span 182 individual medications.
We could not check Lactobacillus bulgaricus and Lactobacillus rhamnosus because we hold no interaction data for them. To see whether your specific antibiotics are affected, use the medication checker on this page — and if you're taking or about to start an antibiotic, talk with your doctor or pharmacist about timing this probiotic to get the most benefit from both.

Probiotic Blend
Antibiotic Drugs
Theoretically, taking Lactobacillus acidophilus with antibiotic drugs might decrease the effectiveness of L. acidophilus.
L. acidophilus preparations usually contain live and active organisms. Therefore, simultaneously taking antibiotics might kill a significant number of the organisms. Tell patients to separate administration of antibiotics and L. acidophilus preparations by at least two hours.
