This 12-ingredient probiotic contains live bacterial strains meant to support your gut health. The active ingredients include six Lactobacillus species (acidophilus, salivarius, plantarum, casei, gasseri, and rhamnosus), three Bifidobacterium species (longum, bifidum, and animalis lactis), two Bacillus species (coagulans and subtilis DE111), and one amino acid product called PerfectAmino.
The capsule also contains rice flour as an inactive ingredient.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
Evidence for this probiotic's usefulness varies widely by condition and strain. Lactobacillus acidophilus is possibly effective for irritable bowel syndrome, Helicobacter pylori infection, antibiotic-associated diarrhea, and bacterial vaginosis.
Bifidobacterium bifidum is possibly effective for IBS and respiratory tract infections. Bacillus coagulans is possibly effective for constipation and IBS, and Bacillus subtilis DE111 is possibly effective for antibiotic-associated diarrhea.
For many other uses—allergies, anxiety, asthma, athletic performance, and others—the evidence we have isn't enough to rate whether these strains work. How safe is it?
Well-documented data
These probiotic strains are generally well tolerated in healthy adults and children. However, because they contain live organisms, there is a theoretical concern they could cause infection in people with weakened immune systems, serious illness, or indwelling catheters.
Gastrointestinal side effects like bloating, gas, abdominal pain, and diarrhea have been reported but are uncommon. Rare cases of serious infections (bacteremia, sepsis) have occurred in critically ill or immunocompromised patients, though these are very uncommon in otherwise healthy people.
For Lactobacillus acidophilus and Bifidobacterium bifidum, pregnancy is rated as possibly safe; lactation data are not on file for those two. For Bifidobacterium longum, both pregnancy and lactation are rated as possibly safe.
Data on the other strains during pregnancy and lactation are not on file. Talk with your doctor before using this product if you're pregnant, breastfeeding, have a compromised immune system, or are seriously ill.
