ANTIBIOTIC DRUGS
Why this applies to Erythromycin Stearate
Erythromycin Stearate falls under ANTIBIOTIC DRUGS — the group Bacillus Subtilis interacts with.
Since B. subtilis preparations usually contain live and active organisms, simultaneously taking antibiotics might kill a significant number of the organisms. Tell patients to separate administration of antibiotics and B. subtilis preparations by at least 2 hours.
Interaction has not been documented in well-controlled studies, however, the interaction has been demonstrated in some small human studies or in controlled animal studies in conjunction with multiple case reports..
Here's the simple version: erythromycin is an antibiotic, and it doesn't care whether bacteria are good or bad. Since your Bacillus subtilis probiotic is made of live bacteria, taking it at the same time as erythromycin can wipe out a chunk of those probiotic organisms before they ever get to work. In other words, this interaction doesn't hurt your antibiotic or make it stronger, it just makes the probiotic less effective.
The good news is the fix is easy. Spacing the two apart by at least 2 hours usually does the trick. This is based on how the drug works rather than hard clinical studies, so don't worry. Your erythromycin will still treat your infection just fine. If you want to be sure about timing, your pharmacist can help you plan it out.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Erythromycin Stearate page
“Erythromycin stearate (Erythrocin, Ethril) is an antibiotic that asks for real vigilance around supplements. It blocks the body's main drug-clearing enzyme, so the largest share of this list is herbs whose blood levels can climb while you take it.”

About Bacillus Subtilis
What is Bacillus Subtilis?
- Digestive health and bloating
- Diarrhea support
- Immune support
- Gut microbiome balance
Bacillus subtilis is a spore-forming probiotic bacterium found in soil and some fermented foods, and it is used mainly to support gut health and digestion. Early research is promising for certain digestive and immune uses, but evidence is still limited and not strong enough to make firm claims. Talk to a pharmacist or doctor before using it, especially if you have a weak immune system.
About Erythromycin
What Is Erythromycin Used For?
Brand names: Erythro-S, Erythrocin, Ethril
Erythromycin treats infections caused by susceptible bacteria. The oral products (delayed-release tablets, tablets and suspensions) are labeled for mild to moderate upper respiratory tract infections caused by Streptococcus pyogenes, Streptococcus pneumoniae and Haemophilus influenzae. For H. influenzae, it is used together with adequate doses of sulfonamides.
Erythromycin lactobionate injection (Erythrocin Lactobionate and other lactobionate products) is used for similar infections, including lower respiratory tract infections, when oral treatment is not possible or when the infection needs high blood levels right away. Topical erythromycin 2% solution, Ery 2% pads and Spotex gel are used on the skin to treat acne vulgaris.
