Bacillus Subtilis + Amoxicillin
Amoxicillin brand names: Amoxil Capsules, Trimox, Wymox, Amix, Amoram, and others.
Bacillus Subtilis has a moderate interaction with Amoxicillin. Theoretically, taking Bacillus subtilis with antibiotic drugs might decrease the effectiveness of B.

Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
ANTIBIOTIC DRUGS
Why this applies to Amoxicillin
Amoxicillin falls under ANTIBIOTIC DRUGS — the group Bacillus Subtilis interacts with.
Since B. subtilis preparations usually contain live and active organisms, simultaneously taking antibiotics might kill a significant number of the organisms. Tell patients to separate administration of antibiotics and B. subtilis preparations by at least 2 hours.
Interaction has not been documented in well-controlled studies, however, the interaction has been demonstrated in some small human studies or in controlled animal studies in conjunction with multiple case reports..
Here's the simple version: this one runs the opposite way from most interactions. Amoxicillin won't be weakened, and you won't get more side effects from it. Instead, it's your probiotic that takes the hit. Bacillus subtilis supplements contain live bacteria, and amoxicillin is an antibiotic whose whole job is to kill bacteria. So if you swallow them at the same time, the antibiotic can wipe out a good chunk of those probiotic organisms before they do anything useful.
This is a theoretical concern based on how the two work, not something proven in big studies, so don't stress about it. A practical fix is to space them out by at least 2 hours. If you want to be sure about timing while finishing your infection treatment, just check with your pharmacist.

About Bacillus Subtilis
What is Bacillus Subtilis?
- Digestive health and bloating
- Diarrhea support
- Immune support
- Gut microbiome balance
Bacillus subtilis is a spore-forming probiotic bacterium found in soil and some fermented foods, and it is used mainly to support gut health and digestion. Early research is promising for certain digestive and immune uses, but evidence is still limited and not strong enough to make firm claims. Talk to a pharmacist or doctor before using it, especially if you have a weak immune system.
About Amoxicillin
What Is Amoxicillin Used For?
Brand names: Amoxil Capsules, Trimox, Wymox, Amix, Amoram, Amoxident, Galenamox, Rimoxallin, Amoxil Injection
Amoxicillin treats infections caused by susceptible bacteria. It does not work on viruses. The label lists these uses:
- Ear, nose and throat infections
- Genitourinary tract (urinary and genital area) infections
- Skin and skin structure infections
- Lower respiratory tract (lung and airway) infections
- Adults only: H. pylori infection with duodenal ulcer disease, combined with other medicines
Amoxicillin for Oral Suspension (Amoxil and other labels) also lists acute uncomplicated gonorrhea. It is not recommended as a first guess for gonorrhea because of high resistance rates.

Natural Medicines records Amoxicillin as a medicine that can lower these. This is not an interaction with Bacillus Subtilis — it is a separate effect of the medicine, and it is a reason some people are advised to supplement rather than to avoid one:
