Plazomicin Sulfate falls under ANTIBIOTIC DRUGS — the group Bacillus Subtilis interacts with.

Theoretically, taking Bacillus subtilis with antibiotic drugs might decrease the effectiveness of B. subtilis.
Since B. subtilis preparations usually contain live and active organisms, simultaneously taking antibiotics might kill a significant number of the organisms. Tell patients to separate administration of antibiotics and B. subtilis preparations by at least 2 hours.

Here's the simple version: plazomicin (Zemdri) is a strong antibiotic that kills bacteria. Bacillus subtilis is a probiotic made of live bacteria. If the antibiotic is in your system while you take this probiotic, it can wipe out many of those friendly organisms, so the supplement just won't do much for you. The good news is this doesn't make the antibiotic less safe or less effective at treating your infection.

This concern is theoretical, based on how the two work, not on hard clinical proof. Keep in mind plazomicin is given as an injection in a hospital or clinic, so timing is usually managed for you. If you want to use this probiotic, ask your pharmacist or doctor first, since it may make more sense after your antibiotic course is finished.

What Is Plazomicin Injection Used For?

Brand name: Zemdri

Zemdri (plazomicin) is approved for adults 18 and older to treat complicated urinary tract infections (cUTI), including pyelonephritis (a serious kidney infection), caused by certain susceptible bacteria such as Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Proteus mirabilis, and Enterobacter cloacae.

Because clinical data on Zemdri are still limited, it is reserved for patients who have few or no other treatment options. It should only be used when the infection is confirmed or strongly suspected to be caused by bacteria that respond to it, in order to reduce the development of antibiotic-resistant bacteria.
