HelloPharmacist Scorecard of Pure Tranquility Liquid by Pure Encapsulations
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
Pure Tranquility Liquid contains three active ingredients. Glycine is an amino acid; theanine (sold as Suntheanine) is a compound from green tea thought to support relaxation; and GABA is a neurotransmitter involved in calming effects.
The product also contains inactive ingredients—water, glycerin, cane sugar, citric acid, natural apple flavor, potassium sorbate, and stevia leaf extract—that serve as the base, sweetener, and preservative.
Does it work?
Not established
The evidence for these ingredients is mixed. Glycine is rated possibly effective for schizophrenia but has insufficient evidence for ADHD, benign prostatic hyperplasia, and cystic fibrosis.
Theanine is rated possibly effective for cognitive function but insufficient evidence exists for anxiety, Alzheimer disease, and cancer. GABA has insufficient evidence to rate it for anxiety, ADHD, athletic performance, and other conditions.
In short, the scientific support for this product's calming or cognitive effects isn't well established in the data we hold.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
All three ingredients are generally well tolerated at typical doses, but long-term safety data are limited for each. Glycine rarely causes mild sedation, irritability, insomnia, fatigue, memory impairment, headache, soft stools, nausea, vomiting, and upper GI discomfort—these resolve quickly if you stop taking it.
Theanine may cause headaches, drowsiness, increased sleep, and increased dream activity. GABA most commonly causes drowsiness, gastric upset, minor throat burning, muscle weakness, and nausea.
For pregnancy and breastfeeding, the data on all three ingredients is insufficient—there isn't enough information to know whether they're safe, so you should talk with your doctor or pharmacist for personalized advice if you're pregnant or breastfeeding.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before taking Pure Tranquility Liquid, double-check with your doctor or pharmacist if you take clozapine (Clozaril)—adding this product could worsen schizophrenia symptoms. Also check if you're on blood pressure medications or CNS depressants (sedatives, sleep aids, certain pain relievers), since the product's ingredients may intensify their effects.
If you take antidepressants or other serotonergic drugs, mention this product as well, though reported problems are rare.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no established evidence rating for its marketed use. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Pure Tranquility Liquid is best considered if you're looking to support relaxation or cognitive focus, though the scientific evidence for its effectiveness is limited. It's not a good choice if you take clozapine, blood pressure medications, or CNS depressants without checking first—these interactions matter.
If you're pregnant or breastfeeding, or take any prescription medications, talk with your doctor or pharmacist before starting this product.

Pure Tranquility Liquid by Pure Encapsulations Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Pure Tranquility Liquid by Pure Encapsulations contains three active ingredients—glycine, Suntheanine (theanine), and GABA—that together interact with a range of medications.
The most serious concern is a Moderate interaction between glycine and clozapine (Clozaril), an antipsychotic: one small clinical study showed that adding glycine to clozapine worsened schizophrenia symptoms, though the exact mechanism isn't clear.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Both theanine and GABA may lower blood pressure, so using either with blood pressure medications (antihypertensive drugs) could potentiate their effects—meaning your blood pressure might drop more than intended. This is rated Moderate for both ingredients.
Additionally, theanine and GABA can theoretically add to the sedative effects of central nervous system depressants (CNS depressants)—drugs like sleep aids, sedatives, and some pain relievers—though it's unclear how clinically important this concern is in practice. Theanine also has Minor interactions with serotonergic drugs (antidepressants and similar medications), but clinical studies are conflicting and no cases of serotonin syndrome have been reported.
Although we checked glycine and found one interaction category, it has no other documented interactions in our data. Altogether, these interactions span 565 individual medications.
Use the search tool below to check whether any of your current prescriptions fall into these categories before starting this product.

For each ingredient in Pure Tranquility Liquid with known interactions, here are the types of medications they can affect. Open any type for the detail — or search your exact drug in the checker above.
Suntheanine
Antihypertensive Drugs
Theanine might lower blood pressure, potentiating the effects of antihypertensive drugs.
Animal research shows that theanine can lower blood pressure in spontaneously hypertensive animals. Theoretically, concomitant use of theanine and antihypertensive drugs might potentiate the antihypertensive activity.
Cns Depressants
Theoretically, theanine might have additive sedative effects when used in conjunction with CNS depressants. However, it is unclear if this concern is clinically relevant.
Theoretically, theanine may compete with glutamate and/or increase plasma gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) levels, which could cause CNS depression. In one clinical study, some subjects taking oral theanine reported drowsiness.
Serotonergic Drugs
Clinical studies regarding the effects of L-theanine on serotonin levels are conflicting. Some studies suggest it can increase serotonin levels in the brain while others report that it may decrease them. Nevertheless, there have been no reports of l-theanine being a causative agent in serotonergic-related side effects or serotonin syndrome.
GABA
Antihypertensive Drugs
Theoretically, taking GABA with antihypertensive drugs might increase the risk of hypotension.
Some clinical research shows that GABA can decrease blood pressure in patients with hypertension.
Cns Depressants
Theoretically, GABA might have additive sedative effects when used in conjunction with CNS depressants. However, it is unclear if this concern is clinically relevant.
Endogenous GABA has well-established relaxant effects and GABA(A) receptors have an established physiological role in sleep. However, the effects of GABA supplements are unclear, as it is unknown whether exogenous GABA crosses the blood-brain barrier. Although there have been limited reports of drowsiness or tiredness with GABA supplements, these effects have not been widely reported in clinical studies. Additionally, intravenous GABA 0.1-1 mg/kg has been shown to induce anxiety in a dose-dependent manner.
Glycine
Clozapine (Clozaril)
Theoretically, glycine might decrease the effectiveness of clozapine.
One small clinical study in patients with schizophrenia shows that adding glycine to clozapine therapy worsens symptoms of schizophrenia when compared with clozapine alone. The mechanism of this interaction is unclear.
