PureProbiotic Ingredients & Drug Interactions
What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking PureProbiotic against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. It’s educational information from our licensed clinical databases and the clinical staff at HelloPharmacist — not medical advice — and we don’t sell or endorse products. Our editorial policy

HelloPharmacist Scorecard of PureProbiotic by Pure Encapsulations
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Low disclosure
PureProbiotic contains six active probiotic ingredients: three Lactobacillus strains (rhamnosus, plantarum, and acidophilus) and three Bifidobacterium strains (bifidum, breve, and animalis lactis). These are live, beneficial bacteria meant to support digestive health.
The capsule itself is made from cellulose and water — no added fillers or binders.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
The evidence for these probiotics is mixed and depends on what you're using them for. Lactobacillus acidophilus and Bifidobacterium bifidum are both possibly effective for irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and for preventing diarrhea after antibiotics.
L. acidophilus is also possibly effective for bacterial vaginosis and H. pylori infection. B. breve doesn't have strong evidence for most uses we looked at — the data either aren't there yet or suggest it may not work.
Overall, the research on probiotics is still evolving, and results vary from person to person.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
These probiotics are generally well tolerated in healthy adults and children. Mild gastrointestinal side effects like bloating, flatulence, and abdominal discomfort can happen, especially when you first start, but they're uncommon.
If you have a weakened immune system or are seriously ill, talk to your doctor before using this product — there are rare reports of these bacteria causing infection in critically ill patients, though it's very uncommon. For pregnancy, the limited data suggest these strains are possibly safe, but there isn't enough information on them during breastfeeding, so check with your doctor or pharmacist if you're nursing.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
If you take antibiotic drugs, don't take this probiotic at the same time — the antibiotics will kill the beneficial bacteria and make the supplement ineffective. Space your doses at least 2–3 hours apart, or ask your doctor or pharmacist for guidance on the best timing for your situation.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFormula with limited ingredient disclosure with some supporting evidence behind its ingredients' uses. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
This probiotic blend is a good option if you're looking for support with IBS or antibiotic-related diarrhea, though results vary. The main thing to watch: don't take it at the same time as antibiotics — space them apart.
If you're immunocompromised, very ill, or pregnant or breastfeeding, talk it over with your doctor or pharmacist before starting.

PureProbiotic by Pure Encapsulations Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
PureProbiotic by Pure Encapsulations contains four live probiotic strains, three of which we have checked for interactions: Lactobacillus acidophilus, Bifidobacterium bifidum, and Bifidobacterium breve.
All three share the same concern with antibiotic drugs — antibiotics can kill the live organisms in the probiotic, making the supplement less effective. This is a moderate-severity interaction that's easy to manage by spacing out doses.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Altogether, these interactions span 182 individual medications. The affected drug type is antibiotics (a broad class that includes penicillins, fluoroquinolones, macrolides, and many others).
The fix is straightforward: take your antibiotic at least 2–3 hours apart from this probiotic, or ask your doctor or pharmacist for the best timing in your situation.
We couldn't check three of the six ingredients — Lactobacillus rhamnosus LR-32, Lactobacillus plantarum LP-115, and Bifidobacterium animalis lactis Bb-04 — because we hold no interaction data for them. That doesn't mean they're risk-free with medications, just that we haven't reviewed them.
Use the medication checker on this page to search your exact drugs.
