Every active ingredient lists its own amount on the label.

Why this rating?
  • The label discloses an exact amount for 1 of its 1 active ingredient.
  • No proprietary blends here — you can verify the dose of every single component.

This product contains one active ingredient: purified shilajit extract. Shilajit is a traditional mineral-rich substance used in Ayurvedic practice.

The capsule itself is made from vegetable cellulose, which is an inactive ingredient.

Evidence for Intended Use · database check
By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed
Not established

The graded evidence we hold for these ingredients covers different conditions than the ones this product is marketed for, so there's no established rating for its stated use — see Shilajit's own graded uses on its monograph.

Why this rating?
  • The label markets this product for: increased energy stamina and anti-aging support.
  • We looked for evidence on: Athletic performance, fatigue, vitality, aging.
  • The closest evidence on file: Shilajit is rated "Insufficient Reliable Evidence To Rate" for Athletic performance (Natural Medicines).

The evidence we hold doesn't establish whether shilajit works for Alzheimer disease, sexual dysfunction, athletic performance, benign prostatic hyperplasia (enlarged prostate), or osteoporosis (weak bones). All of these uses are rated as having insufficient reliable evidence, so we can't say whether this product is effective for them.

The evidence, ingredient by ingredient Shilajit

How safe is it?

Well-documented data
Safety Information · database check
Well characterized

Adverse-effect, pregnancy, and general safety data are on file for most of these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • We hold adverse-effect (side-effect) data for 1 of the 1 matched ingredient.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 1 of 1.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 1 of 1.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

Shilajit is generally well tolerated, though a small number of cases have been reported: one person developed a severe allergic reaction (hives and anaphylaxis) after increasing their dose, and headache has been reported rarely in clinical studies. Because unpurified shilajit can contain heavy metals or other contaminants, only use purified, tested brands like this one.

The safety data advises against use during pregnancy and breastfeeding. There isn't enough information to know whether it's safe while nursing, so talk with your doctor or pharmacist for personalized guidance if you're pregnant or breastfeeding.

Moderate interaction found
Known Interaction Concern · database check
Moderate identified

The most serious documented interaction for these ingredients is Moderate. Check your medications for a personalized result.

Why this rating?
  • 1 of the 1 matched ingredient can interact with medications — Shilajit.
  • The most serious interaction on file is rated Moderate.
  • Some involve high-stakes drug classes: diabetes medications.
  • For scale: 86 individual medications appear in the full list. A big number alone doesn't make a product dangerous — what matters is whether YOUR medication is on it, so run yours through the interaction checker on this page.

If you take any antidiabetes drugs — insulin, metformin, sulfonylureas, or others — you should check your exact medications with the tool on this page and talk with your doctor or pharmacist before taking shilajit. The ingredient can increase the risk of low blood sugar when combined with these drugs.

The bottom line

Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no established evidence rating for its marketed use. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.

Herbadiet's Purified Shilajit might appeal to someone looking for a traditional mineral supplement, but the main thing to watch is whether you take any antidiabetes drugs. If you do, check with your doctor or pharmacist before starting, since shilajit can boost the blood-sugar-lowering effect.

Avoid it if you're pregnant or breastfeeding. The evidence for its effectiveness on any specific condition isn't established yet.

Antidiabetes Drugs

Taking shilajit with antidiabetes drugs might increase the risk of hypoglycemia.
Most human and animal research shows that shilajit can decrease fasting plasma glucose levels. In an animal model, shilajit 100 mg per kg daily enhanced the glucose-lowering ability of both glibenclamide and metformin when given in combination over a 4 week period. Monitor blood glucose levels closely. Dose adjustments might be necessary.

Purified Shilajit by Herbadiet: Common Questions

Does Purified Shilajit by Herbadiet interact with any medications?
Yes. Based on its ingredients, Purified Shilajit has a known interaction with 86 medications. Use the checker to see how it interacts with a specific drug.
How can one product interact with so many drugs?
Purified Shilajit contains a single active ingredient, and that one ingredient can interact with many different medications on its own. We check it against each medication and show the mechanism responsible.
Where does this information come from?
The product label data comes from the NIH Dietary Supplement Label Database (DSLD); the interaction data is built on the Natural Medicines database and reviewed by HelloPharmacist pharmacists.
Is purified shilajit safer than other shilajit products?
Yes — unpurified shilajit can contain heavy metals or other contaminants. This product is purified and tested, which is what you want. Always look for brands that specify they're purified.
Can I take this if I'm pregnant?
No, the safety data advises against it during pregnancy. There's also not enough data to know whether it's safe while breastfeeding. Talk with your doctor or pharmacist if you're pregnant or nursing.
What does shilajit actually do?
Shilajit is a traditional mineral-rich substance used in Ayurvedic practice, but we don't have reliable evidence yet that it works for the conditions it's promoted for — like Alzheimer disease, sexual dysfunction, or bone health. The evidence just isn't there yet.
Can shilajit cause side effects?
Most people tolerate it well, but a rare allergic reaction and occasional headache have been reported. One person developed a severe allergic reaction after raising their dose. Stop and seek help right away if you get hives, swelling, or trouble breathing.
Can I take this with diabetes medication?
You need to check with your doctor or pharmacist first. Shilajit can lower blood sugar and make your diabetes drugs work even stronger, which raises the risk of blood sugar dropping too low.
