Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
This softgel contains 5 ingredients, three of which are active. Saw palmetto berry extract and pumpkin seed oil are both traditionally used for prostate and urinary health.
Pygeum bark extract is also targeted at prostate support. The remaining ingredients are monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats — we don't have interaction data for these — plus inactive ingredients (gelatin, glycerin, water, carob) that make up the softgel capsule.
Does it work?
Strong evidence
Saw palmetto is rated possibly ineffective for benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), the most common reason people use it; the evidence for other uses like hair loss or urinary symptoms is insufficient. Pumpkin seed oil is rated possibly effective for BPH.
Pygeum bark extract is rated likely effective for BPH, making it the strongest candidate in this formula for that condition. Evidence for pygeum in other areas like sexual desire is insufficient.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Saw palmetto is generally well tolerated, though adverse effects can include abdominal pain, diarrhea, nausea, dizziness, fatigue, and headache — these are mild and infrequent. Rare cases of heart rhythm changes and fixed skin eruptions have been reported.
Pumpkin seed oil is generally well tolerated as a food; concentrated supplements may cause mild abdominal discomfort, nausea, or diarrhea. Pygeum is well tolerated short-term, though nausea and abdominal pain were reported in some trials at rates similar to placebo.
Long-term safety data for pygeum is limited. Saw palmetto is rated likely unsafe in pregnancy and should be avoided; pumpkin and pygeum have insufficient safety data in pregnancy and lactation — talk with your doctor or pharmacist if you're pregnant or breastfeeding.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Check before starting if you take blood thinners or antiplatelet drugs (moderate risk of increased bleeding), estrogens or birth control pills (moderate risk of reduced effectiveness), or lithium for mood disorders (moderate risk of lithium buildup).
