What’s inside

Low disclosure
Ingredient Transparency · database check
Low

Most active ingredients don't disclose an individual amount — you can't tell how much of each you're getting.

Why this rating?
  • The label discloses an exact amount for 0 of its 1 active ingredient.
  • “Proprietary Blend” is a proprietary blend — the label gives one combined amount (1.50 mL) without saying how much of each component you get.

This liquid contains one active ingredient: red raspberry leaf (from a proprietary blend). The remaining ingredients are purified water and ethanol, which serve as a liquid carrier and preservative.

Does it work?

Insufficient evidence
Evidence for Intended Use · database check
By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed
Insufficient

There isn't enough reliable clinical evidence to rate this product's ingredients for its stated purpose.

Why this rating?
  • The label markets this product for: pregnancy and menstrual health support.
  • We looked for evidence on: Dysmenorrhea, Labor pain, Menorrhagia, Parturition, Pregnancy-induced nausea and vomiting, Postpartum recovery — and 1 related terms.
  • The closest evidence on file: Red Raspberry is rated "Insufficient Reliable Evidence To Rate" for Pregnancy-induced nausea and vomiting (Natural Medicines).
  • Also on file: Red Raspberry is rated "Insufficient Reliable Evidence To Rate" for Labor pain, Parturition, Dysmenorrhea, Menorrhagia.

The evidence we hold doesn't support red raspberry leaf for aging skin, heart disease, respiratory infections, heart failure, or diabetes—each of these has insufficient reliable evidence to rate. If you're considering this product for one of those uses, talk with your doctor or pharmacist about whether the data supports it for your situation.

How safe is it?

Well-documented data
Safety Information · database check
Well characterized

Adverse-effect, pregnancy, and general safety data are on file for most of these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • We hold adverse-effect (side-effect) data for 1 of the 1 matched ingredient.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 1 of 1.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 1 of 1.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

Red raspberry leaf is generally well tolerated by most adults, though safety information is limited. The most common side effects are diarrhea, gastrointestinal upset, and stomach pain—though these rarely happen at typical doses.

One occupational case of asthma symptoms (wheezing and shortness of breath) from inhaling red raspberry powder has been reported. In pregnancy, safety ratings vary—the data we hold lists it as both Likely Safe and Possibly Safe, which means guidance depends on the stage of pregnancy and individual circumstances.

It's often used in late pregnancy, but you should use it only with your provider's guidance. There isn't enough reliable information to confirm safety while breastfeeding, so talk with your doctor or pharmacist if you're nursing.

Likelihood Possible Evidence D
Insulin

Red raspberry leaf might reduce glucose levels in patients being treated with insulin.
In one case report, a 38-year-old patient with gestational diabetes, whose blood glucose was being controlled with medical nutrition therapy and insulin, developed hypoglycemia after consuming two servings of raspberry leaf tea daily for 3 days beginning at 32 weeks' gestation. The patient required an insulin dose reduction. The hypoglycemia was considered to be probably related to use of red raspberry leaf tea.
