HelloPharmacist Scorecard of Reishi Extract 1000 mg by SuperSmart
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: reishi extract at 1000 mg per capsule. Reishi is a mushroom used in traditional medicine that's been studied for various health effects.
The capsule also contains two inactive ingredients — acacia gum and white rice flour — to hold the product together.
Does it work?
Not established
The data we hold shows reishi extract rated as possibly ineffective for high cholesterol (hyperlipidemia). For altitude sickness, Alzheimer disease, and athletic performance, there isn't enough reliable evidence to rate how well it works.
So we can't tell you whether this product will be effective for those uses based on the research available to us.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Reishi extract is generally well tolerated in the short term, but long-term safety hasn't been well studied, so that's something to keep in mind if you're thinking of taking it for months or years. The most common side effects are dizziness, dry mouth, itching, nausea, rash, and stomach upset.
A small number of people have reported respiratory allergy to reishi spores, sore throat, runny nose, insomnia, and headache. There isn't enough safety data to know whether reishi is safe in pregnancy or while breastfeeding — the safety data advises against use in both situations.
Talk with your doctor or pharmacist if you're pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or nursing before you take this.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before taking this product, check your exact medications with the tool on this page if you're on blood thinners (anticoagulants) or antiplatelet drugs, blood pressure medications, or diabetes medications. Reishi at higher doses may increase bleeding risk, lower your blood pressure further, or add to blood sugar effects.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no established evidence rating for its marketed use. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Reishi extract may be worth considering if you're curious about traditional mushroom supplements and don't take blood pressure, blood thinner, or diabetes medications. If you're on any of those drugs, or if you're pregnant or nursing, check with your pharmacist before starting.
Long-term safety data is limited, so this is something to discuss with your healthcare provider if you plan to take it for a while.

Reishi Extract 1000 mg by SuperSmart Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Reishi Extract 1000 mg by SuperSmart has documented interactions with three medication types.
The most serious concern is with blood thinners (anticoagulants) and antiplatelet drugs — at higher doses, reishi may increase bleeding risk. The data shows that 1.5 grams daily doesn't affect platelet clotting, but 3 grams daily does, so dosing matters here.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Reishi also interacts moderately with blood pressure medications (antihypertensive drugs). It has shown blood pressure-lowering activity in animal studies and reduces blood pressure in some people with high blood pressure, which means taking it with your blood pressure medication could theoretically lower your pressure too much.
Moderately, it may also interact with diabetes medications. Animal research suggests reishi lowers blood sugar, though human studies in type 2 diabetes show mixed results — it doesn't consistently lower fasting glucose or other measures.
Still, the additive effect is a real concern if you're on diabetes drugs.
Altogether, these interactions span 372 individual medications. If you take any of these types, run your exact prescriptions through the checker below before you start.

Reishi extract
Anticoagulant/Antiplatelet Drugs
Theoretically, high doses of reishi mushroom might increase the risk of bleeding.
A dose of 1.5 grams daily of reishi mushroom does not seem to decrease platelet aggregation, but a higher dose of 3 grams daily does.
Antidiabetes Drugs
Theoretically, reishi mushroom might have additive effects with antidiabetes drugs.
Animal research suggests that reishi mushroom decreases blood sugar. However, in patients with type 2 diabetes, taking reishi mushroom does not reduce fasting glucose levels, and its effects on glycated hemoglobin are inconsistent.
Antihypertensive Drugs
Theoretically, concurrent use of reishi mushroom with antihypertensive drugs might increase the risk of hypotension.
Reishi mushroom has shown hypotensive activity in animal research. Clinical evidence suggests that reishi mushroom reduces blood pressure in some, but not all, patients with hypertension.
