ANTIHYPERTENSIVE DRUGS
Why this applies to Benazepril
Benazepril falls under ANTIHYPERTENSIVE DRUGS — the group Reishi Mushroom interacts with.
Reishi mushroom has shown hypotensive activity in animal research. Clinical evidence suggests that reishi mushroom reduces blood pressure in some, but not all, patients with hypertension.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the gist: benazepril (Lotensin) already lowers your blood pressure, and reishi mushroom may nudge it down a little further. When you stack two things that both relax blood vessels, the combined drop can sometimes be more than you want. That could leave you feeling lightheaded, dizzy, woozy when you stand up, or unusually tired.
I'll be honest with you, this concern comes mostly from animal studies and a few mixed human reports, so it's more of a theoretical caution than a sure thing. Reishi doesn't lower everyone's pressure. Still, if you decide to try it, it's smart to check your blood pressure at home and let your pharmacist or doctor know before you start, especially if your readings already run low.

About Reishi Mushroom
What is Reishi Mushroom?
- Immune support
- Fatigue and general well-being
- Stress and sleep
- Inflammation
- Heart and cholesterol health
Reishi is a traditional Asian mushroom widely used to support the immune system and overall wellness. Human evidence for most of its claimed benefits is limited or low-quality, so it should not replace proven treatments. It is generally well tolerated for short-term use, but check with your pharmacist or doctor before starting, especially if you are pregnant, nursing, or take other medicines.
About Benazepril
What Is Benazepril Used For?
Brand name: Lotensin
Benazepril — sold as Lotensin and under its generic names Benazepril and Benazepril Hydrochloride — is approved to treat high blood pressure (hypertension). Lowering blood pressure reduces the risk of serious events like stroke and heart attack.
It can be used on its own or combined with a thiazide diuretic (water pill) when blood pressure needs more control. Because high blood pressure management is part of overall heart health, your doctor may also address cholesterol, blood sugar, and lifestyle factors alongside this medication.

Benazepril Is Linked to Lower Levels of One Nutrient
Natural Medicines records Benazepril as a medicine that can lower these. This is not an interaction with Reishi Mushroom — it is a separate effect of the medicine, and it is a reason some people are advised to supplement rather than to avoid one:
