Reishi Mushroom and Naproxen

Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.

Moderate

ANTICOAGULANT/ANTIPLATELET DRUGS

Why this applies to Naproxen

Naproxen falls under ANTICOAGULANT/ANTIPLATELET DRUGS — the group Reishi Mushroom interacts with.

Theoretically, high doses of reishi mushroom might increase the risk of bleeding.
A dose of 1.5 grams daily of reishi mushroom does not seem to decrease platelet aggregation, but a higher dose of 3 grams daily does.
Severity Moderate Likelihood Possible Evidence D

Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.

Dr. Brian Staiger, PharmD, BCPS
Dr. Brian Staiger explains PharmD, Clinical Pharmacist

Here's the thing to keep an eye on with this pair. Naproxen already nudges up your bleeding risk a bit on its own, since it can irritate the stomach lining and makes platelets a little less sticky. Reishi may do something similar at higher amounts. One small study found that 3 grams a day of reishi reduced platelet clumping, while 1.5 grams a day did not, so dose really matters here.

Stacking the two together could, in theory, make you bruise more easily or raise the chance of stomach or other bleeding. I'll be honest though, this concern comes mostly from lab and limited human data, so it's not a strong, proven interaction. Still, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor, especially if you take naproxen often or use higher reishi doses.

Reishi is a traditional Asian mushroom widely used to support the immune system and overall wellness. It is generally well tolerated for short-term use, but check with your pharmacist or doctor before starting, especially if you are pregnant, nursing, or take other medicines.
