Vitamin B12
Vitamin B12, also known as cobalamin, is a water-soluble vitamin crucial for several bodily functions. It plays a pivotal role in the formation of red blood cells, aiding in the prevention of anemia. Vitamin B12 is essential for maintaining a healthy nervous system and proper brain function, as it is involved in the synthesis of myelin, the protective sheath around nerve fibers. This vitamin is primarily found in animal-based foods such as meat, fish, dairy products, and eggs, making it important for vegetarians and vegans to consider supplementation. A deficiency in vitamin B12 can lead to neurological issues, fatigue, and cognitive impairment.

SAMe
S-adenosyl-l-methionine (SAM-e or SAMe) is a compound that is found naturally in the body and is involved in various processes, including the synthesis of neurotransmitters and the metabolism of hormones. SAM-e has been studied as a potential treatment for a variety of health conditions, including depression, osteoarthritis, and liver disease. As a dietary supplement, it is most often used for improving symptoms of depression and for osteoarthritis. In regard to depression, research suggests that SAM-e may be more effective than placebo in reducing the severity of depression and may be as effective as certain antidepressants for some individuals. However, more research is needed. Similarly, for osteoarthritis, some studies show that it is as effective in reducing symptoms for some individuals as NSAIDs (e.g., ibuprofen). There are a variety of different forms of SAM-e supplements available on the market, typically different salt forms (e.g., sulfate, sulfate-p-toluenesulfonate, and butanedisulfonate), which may affect how well it is absorbed.

- SAMe was first discovered in the early 1970s. SAMe (S-adenosylmethionine) is a naturally occurring compound found in all living organisms. In humans, SAMe is found throughout the body and is involved in many important biochemical processes. As we age, however, the production of natural SAMe declines.
SAMe comes from Methionine, an amino acid found in protein-rich foods. The process of Methylation happens billions of times a second, affecting everything from fetal development to brain function. It regulates the genetic expression, preserves the fatty membranes that insulate our cells, and helps modulate the action of various hormones and neurotransmitters, including serotonin, melatonin, dopamine and adrenaline.
SAMe supplementation may help to temporarily reduce aches and pains resulting from overexertion or stress, and may help to support mood health. And because Protocol for Life Balance(TM) SAMe is enteric-coated it can safely pass through the acids of the stomach in order to reach the vital areas where it is most needed.
