What is this page for?

What’s inside
Full disclosure
This liquid contains a single active ingredient: organic saw palmetto. Saw palmetto is an extract from the fruit of a small palm tree, traditionally used for urinary and prostate concerns.
The product also contains grain alcohol and deionized water as inactive ingredients.
Does it work?
Leans against
The evidence for saw palmetto is mixed. For benign prostate enlargement (BPH) — one of its most common uses — the data we hold rates it possibly ineffective.
For recovery after a specific prostate procedure (transurethral resection of the prostate, or TURP), it's rated possibly effective. For hair loss, chronic bronchitis, and lower urinary tract symptoms, we don't have enough reliable evidence yet to say whether it works.
If you're considering this for a specific condition, it's worth asking your doctor what the current evidence shows for your situation.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Saw palmetto is generally well tolerated in adults, and side effects tend to be mild and reversible when they do occur. The most common ones reported in studies are abdominal pain, constipation, diarrhea, nausea, dizziness, headache, fatigue, decreased libido, and rhinitis.
Rarely, skin reactions (fixed drug eruptions with blisters) or heart effects like irregular heartbeat, high blood pressure, or in one case severe bradycardia have been reported. Avoid saw palmetto during pregnancy because of possible hormonal effects and lack of safety data.
Also avoid it while breastfeeding — there isn't enough information to know it's safe. If you're pregnant, planning pregnancy, or breastfeeding, talk with your pharmacist or doctor before taking any saw palmetto product.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Check your medications if you take blood thinners or antiplatelet drugs (like warfarin or clopidogrel) — saw palmetto may increase bleeding risk. Also double-check if you're on estrogens or birth control pills, since saw palmetto may reduce their effectiveness.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with graded evidence leaning against its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Saw palmetto may help with prostate recovery after certain procedures, but the evidence for general prostate enlargement or other uses is limited or unclear. It's not right for you if you're pregnant, breastfeeding, or taking blood thinners without checking first.
Before starting, run your medications through our interaction tool — especially if you're on hormonal birth control or estrogen replacement.

Saw Palmetto by BIOVEA Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
BIOVEA Saw Palmetto Liquid contains one active ingredient — organic saw palmetto — and it does interact with medications.
The most serious documented interaction is with blood thinners and antiplatelet drugs (medications that prevent clotting). Saw palmetto may prolong bleeding time, which means it could increase your risk of bleeding if you're also taking drugs like warfarin, aspirin, or clopidogrel.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Saw palmetto also has moderate interactions with hormonal medications. It may have antiestrogenic effects — meaning it could theoretically interfere with estrogens or birth control pills and reduce how well they work.
If you rely on contraception or hormone therapy, that's worth a conversation with us before you start this product.
Altogether, these interactions span 174 individual medications. Because saw palmetto's hormonal activity and effects on bleeding are real concerns, use the interaction checker below with your exact medications before you begin.
