Iodine is generally well tolerated when you take amounts that stay within safe daily limits and don't exceed what's medically advised. High doses can cause thyroid problems — both underactive and overactive thyroid, as well as acnelike skin lesions (iododerma) if taken in very large amounts over time.

A small number of people are hypersensitive to iodine itself and can have reactions including swelling, rash, or rarely, serious allergic responses. In pregnancy, adequate iodine is important for the baby's brain and thyroid development, but you should only take the amount your doctor recommends — avoid high-dose products on your own.

Some iodine passes into breast milk, so again, follow your doctor's dosing guidance rather than adding extra on top of your prenatal or postnatal advice.

Theoretically, combining Fucus vesiculosus with amiodarone might cause excessively high iodine levels.
Fucus vesiculosus contains high concentrations of iodine. Amiodarone contains 37.3% iodine and can increase iodine levels. Concomitant use might increase the risk of having excessive iodine levels and adversely affecting thyroid function. Monitor thyroid function.
