What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking Magnolia Bark against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. It’s educational information from our licensed clinical databases and the clinical staff at HelloPharmacist — not medical advice — and we don’t sell or endorse products. Our editorial policy

Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
This supplement contains one active ingredient: magnolia bark extract. Magnolia bark has been studied for its potential effects on inflammation and oral health, with its main active compounds being honokiol and magnolol.
The capsule itself also contains inactive ingredients — rice flour, cellulose, silica, and magnesium stearate — which help form and preserve the capsule.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
The evidence for magnolia bark is mixed. For gingivitis (gum inflammation), there is possibly effective evidence — meaning some studies suggest it may help, but more research is needed to be certain.
For allergic rhinitis (hay fever) and dental plaque, the evidence we have is insufficient to say whether it works. For anxiety, there's also insufficient evidence at this time.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Taken by mouth, magnolia bark is generally well tolerated in the short term, though human safety data is limited. The most common side effect reported with topical use is contact dermatitis (skin irritation).
In clinical trials of combination products containing magnolia, a small number of participants reported side effects like sexual dysfunction, shaking hands, numbness around the lips, fatigue, and headache — but it's unclear whether magnolia itself was responsible. During pregnancy, the safety data advises against use.
For breastfeeding, there isn't enough reliable safety information, so it's best to avoid it.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before taking this product, double-check with your pharmacist or doctor if you're on blood thinners or antiplatelet drugs like warfarin, dabigatran, or clopidogrel — magnolia may increase bleeding risk. Also flag any CNS depressants, including benzodiazepines, sleep aids, opioids, or other sedating medications, since magnolia may add to their drowsy effects.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with some supporting evidence behind its ingredients' uses. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Magnolia Bark might be worth considering if you're interested in its possibly effective support for gingivitis, though the evidence is still developing. If you take blood thinners, antiplatelet drugs, or sedating medications, check with your doctor or pharmacist before starting — the interaction risks are real.
Limited human safety data means long-term use hasn't been well studied, and it's not recommended in pregnancy or while breastfeeding.

Magnolia Bark by NusaPure Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
NusaPure Magnolia Bark Extract has documented interactions with two important medication types.
The most serious concern is with blood thinners and antiplatelet drugs (Moderate severity) — magnolia's active compounds may increase bleeding risk when combined with these medications.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
The product may also have additive effects with CNS depressants (Moderate severity) — sedating medications like benzodiazepines, sleep aids, or opioids. Because magnolia bark itself has sedative properties, taking it alongside these drugs could amplify drowsiness or sedation.
Altogether, these interactions span 351 individual medications. Before you start this supplement, run your exact medications through the checker on this page — especially any blood thinners (like warfarin or dabigatran), antiplatelet drugs (like clopidogrel), or sedating prescription or over-the-counter medications.

Magnolia Bark Extract
Anticoagulant/Antiplatelet Drugs
Theoretically, magnolia might have additive effects and increase the risk of bleeding when used with anticoagulant or antiplatelet drugs.
In vitro research shows that the chemicals magnolol and honokiol, isolated from magnolia bark, inhibit platelet aggregation that is experimentally induced by collagen and arachidonic acid. However, they do not inhibit platelet aggregation that is induced by adenosine diphosphate, platelet-activating factor, or thrombin. This interaction has not been reported in humans.
Cns Depressants
Theoretically, concomitant use of large doses of magnolia bark and CNS depressants might have additive effects.
In vitro and animal research shows that constituents extracted from magnolia bark, especially honokiol and magnolol, have sedative effects. These effects may be due to the inhibition of catecholamine release and modulation of gamma-aminobutyric acid-A (GABA-A) receptors.
