What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: shilajit extract at 1000 mg per capsule. Shilajit is a mineral-rich substance traditionally used in Ayurvedic medicine; the extract form concentrates its components.
The capsule also contains methylcellulose, an inactive ingredient that serves as a binder.
Does it work?
Couldn't assess
The evidence for shilajit isn't established in the data we hold. For the conditions listed — Alzheimer disease, sexual dysfunction, athletic performance, benign prostatic hyperplasia (enlarged prostate), and osteopenia (low bone mineral density) — all carry a rating of insufficient reliable evidence.
That means the research so far isn't strong enough to say whether it works or doesn't. If you're considering shilajit for any of these, talk with your doctor about what the current science supports.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Shilajit is generally well tolerated, but a few cautions matter. The product label warns that unpurified shilajit may contain heavy metals or other contaminants, so only use purified, tested brands like this one.
Rarely, headache is reported after taking shilajit. One case of a severe allergic reaction (anaphylaxis) has been documented — a woman developed hives and then anaphylaxis after taking a higher dose, though she'd tolerated a lower dose for months.
During pregnancy, there isn't enough safety data and contamination risk exists, so it's best avoided. While breastfeeding, safety is unknown, so avoid it too.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
If you take antidiabetes drugs (like metformin, glyburide, or other blood sugar medications), check your exact medications with the tool below before taking shilajit — it may increase their effect and raise the risk of low blood sugar.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no assessable stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
If you have no blood sugar medication, this product has no documented interactions we can verify. If you take antidiabetes drugs, check with your pharmacist first — shilajit may strengthen their effect and lower your blood sugar too much.
The effectiveness evidence isn't solid yet for the conditions listed. Because of pregnancy and breastfeeding safety concerns, avoid it if you're pregnant or nursing.

Shiljat 1000 mg by aSquared Nutrition Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Shiljat 1000 mg by aSquared Nutrition contains shilajit extract, which interacts with antidiabetes drugs — the one interaction we have data for is a Moderate severity concern.
If you take medications to lower blood sugar (like metformin or glyburide), shilajit may boost their glucose-lowering effect, raising your risk of low blood sugar (hypoglycemia). Animal studies show shilajit enhances how these drugs work, so the combination needs watching.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Although the product contains only one active ingredient, our data shows it can affect a substantial number of individual medications — specifically 85 antidiabetes drugs across this category. That said, the monograph we hold covers only antidiabetes medications; we haven't checked shilajit against other drug types, so other interactions may exist that we don't have on file.
Before you start, run your exact blood sugar medications through the interaction checker below. If you take any of them, talk with your pharmacist or doctor about whether shilajit is right for you.

Shilajit Extract
Antidiabetes Drugs
Taking shilajit with antidiabetes drugs might increase the risk of hypoglycemia.
Most human and animal research shows that shilajit can decrease fasting plasma glucose levels. In an animal model, shilajit 100 mg per kg daily enhanced the glucose-lowering ability of both glibenclamide and metformin when given in combination over a 4 week period. Monitor blood glucose levels closely. Dose adjustments might be necessary.
