Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
Smart PS Phosphatidylserine Softgels contain 5 active ingredients. The two main players are phosphatidylserine and phosphatidylcholine — both are phospholipids, naturally occurring compounds that support cell membranes and brain health.
The product also includes monounsaturated fat, polyunsaturated fat, and phosphatidylethanolamine. The softgel capsule itself is made with gelatin, glycerin, polyglycitol syrup, MCT oil, and purified water.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
Phosphatidylserine is possibly effective for age-related cognitive decline and Alzheimer's disease. Evidence for its use in athletic performance, ADHD, general cognitive function, and dementia is not well established.
Phosphatidylcholine is possibly effective for ulcerative colitis, but evidence is insufficient to rate its effectiveness for nonalcoholic fatty liver disease, alcohol-related liver disease, Alzheimer's disease, or anxiety.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Phosphatidylserine is generally well tolerated in studies, though long-term safety hasn't been fully established. The most common side effects from oral use are flatulence, gastrointestinal upset, headache, insomnia (more likely at higher doses around 600 mg), and nausea.
Phosphatidylcholine is also generally well tolerated, but high doses can cause digestive upset — common mild effects include altered taste, bloating, diarrhea, itching, nausea, sweating, and vomiting. During pregnancy, there isn't enough safety information for phosphatidylserine, so avoidance is recommended; talk with your doctor about whether this product is right for you.
Choline (from phosphatidylcholine) is needed in pregnancy, but supplement safety beyond food sources isn't well studied — check with your doctor. Breastfeeding safety is unknown for both ingredients, so speak with your healthcare provider first.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before taking this product, double-check your medications with your doctor or pharmacist if you take anticholinergic drugs (used for conditions like urinary incontinence or certain muscle issues) — phosphatidylserine may decrease their effectiveness. Also confirm use if you take cholinergic drugs (used for Alzheimer's disease, myasthenia gravis, or glaucoma), since phosphatidylserine might strengthen their effects.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with some supporting evidence for its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
This product may help with age-related cognitive decline and Alzheimer's disease, though evidence is strongest for phosphatidylserine. If you take anticholinergic or cholinergic medications, you'll want to double-check with your own doctor or pharmacist before adding this product, since it may interact with how these drugs work.
Pregnant or breastfeeding? Talk it over with your healthcare provider first.

Smart PS Phosphatide Softgels by Nootropics Depot Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Smart PS Phosphatidylserine Softgels by Nootropics Depot contains phosphatidylserine, which has documented interactions with anticholinergic drugs (medications that block acetylcholine) and cholinergic drugs (medications that increase acetylcholine).
The most serious concern is a Moderate-severity interaction with anticholinergic drugs — phosphatidylserine may theoretically decrease how well these medications work. Phosphatidylcholine, another active ingredient, has no interactions documented in our data.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Phosphatidylserine can also have additive effects (Moderate severity) when combined with cholinergic drugs, potentially boosting acetylcholine activity beyond what either agent does alone. Monounsaturated fat, polyunsaturated fat, and phosphatidylethanolamine could not be checked — we hold no interaction data for them.
Because anticholinergic and cholinergic medications are used for conditions ranging from urinary issues to Parkinson's disease, it's important to review your exact medications before starting this product. Use the interaction checker on this page, and confirm any concerns with your own doctor or pharmacist.
Altogether, these interactions span 219 individual medications.
