HelloPharmacist Scorecard of Super Bifidophilus by Vitabase
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
Super Bifidophilus contains 4 active ingredients, all live beneficial bacteria (probiotics). You're getting Bifidobacterium animalis lactis, Bifidobacterium longum, and Lactobacillus acidophilus—strains meant to support your gut flora—plus a fourth ingredient listed as Total Minimum Microorganisms.
The product also contains inactive ingredients (potato starch, gelatin, cellulose, silica, and magnesium stearate) that help form and stabilize the capsule.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
The evidence for these ingredients is mixed. Lactobacillus acidophilus is possibly effective for irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), Helicobacter pylori infection, antibiotic-associated diarrhea, and bacterial vaginosis.
For Bifidobacterium longum, the data we hold don't establish effectiveness for the conditions listed—age-related cognitive decline, hay fever, antibiotic-associated diarrhea, generalized anxiety, asthma, and athletic performance all fall into insufficient evidence. We have no effectiveness data on file for Bifidobacterium animalis lactis or the total microorganism count.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Lactobacillus acidophilus is generally well tolerated in healthy adults and children. Bifidobacterium longum is generally well tolerated in healthy people, but caution is advised if you're seriously ill or have a weakened immune system.
Both bacteria are live organisms, and rare cases of serious infection (bacteremia or sepsis) have occurred, mostly in critically ill infants and immune-compromised patients. Uncommon oral side effects with either strain can include abdominal discomfort, gas, bloating, or diarrhea; very rarely, a dry cough has been reported.
Both ingredients are rated Possibly Safe in pregnancy, though Bifidobacterium longum safety data during breastfeeding are limited—talk with your doctor before using while nursing.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Most important: antibiotics can reduce the effectiveness of both Bifidobacterium longum and Lactobacillus acidophilus. Altogether, these interactions span 182 individual medications.
Separate your antibiotic dose from this supplement by a few hours to protect the live organisms. Check your full medication list with your own doctor or pharmacist before you start.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with some supporting evidence for its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
This product may help if you have IBS, antibiotic-associated diarrhea, or certain infections where Lactobacillus acidophilus shows promise. If you're taking antibiotics, timing matters: separate your doses to avoid killing the live bacteria.
Be cautious if you're seriously ill or immune-compromised, and check with your doctor or pharmacist before starting, especially if you're pregnant, breastfeeding, or taking other medications.

Super Bifidophilus by Vitabase Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Super Bifidophilus by Vitabase contains two live-bacteria ingredients—Bifidobacterium longum and Lactobacillus acidophilus—that both interact with antibiotic drugs.
The most serious concern is Moderate-severity: taking antibiotics at the same time as either of these probiotics may kill enough of the live organisms to significantly reduce the effectiveness of the probiotic itself.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Both Bifidobacterium longum and Lactobacillus acidophilus are live cultures, so simultaneous use with antibiotics can destroy a large number of the organisms before they reach your gut. The key here is timing—separating when you take your antibiotics from when you take this supplement can help preserve the probiotic's viability.
We could not check Bifidobacterium animalis lactis or the ingredient listed as Total Minimum Microorganisms for interactions. If you're taking any other prescription medications, use the search tool on this page to check your exact drugs before starting this product.

Bifidobacterium longum
Antibiotic Drugs
Theoretically, taking Bifidobacterium longum with antibiotic drugs might decrease the effectiveness of B. longum.
Since B. longum preparations usually contain live and active organisms, simultaneously taking antibiotics might kill a significant number of the organisms. Tell patients to separate administration of antibiotics and B. longum preparations by at least 2 hours.
