Every active ingredient lists its own amount on the label.

Why this rating?
  • The label discloses an exact amount for 1 of its 1 active ingredient.
  • No proprietary blends here — you can verify the dose of every single component.

Super Shilajit contains one active ingredient: shilajit (500 mg per capsule, delivered as PrimaVie). Shilajit is a mineral-rich substance that may support various aspects of health, though the evidence for most uses remains limited.

The capsules also contain two inactive ingredients — acacia gum and white rice flour — which help hold the product together.

Evidence for Intended Use · database check
By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed
Not established

The graded evidence we hold for these ingredients covers different conditions than the ones this product is marketed for, so there's no established rating for its stated use — see Shilajit's own graded uses on its monograph.

Why this rating?
  • The label markets this product for: Ayurvedic tonic for vitality and energy.
  • We looked for evidence on: Athletic performance, Male infertility, Sexual dysfunction, Sexual desire, fatigue, general wellness — and 2 related terms.
  • The closest evidence on file: Shilajit is rated "Insufficient Reliable Evidence To Rate" for Sexual dysfunction (Natural Medicines).
  • Also on file: Shilajit is rated "Insufficient Reliable Evidence To Rate" for Athletic performance, Sexual desire, Male infertility.

The evidence for shilajit is sparse in our data. For Alzheimer disease, sexual dysfunction, athletic performance, benign prostatic hyperplasia (enlarged prostate), and osteopenia (low bone density), the data we hold shows insufficient reliable evidence to rate how well it works.

If you're considering shilajit for one of these reasons, talk with your pharmacist — they can point you toward the latest research or suggest what the current evidence actually supports.

How safe is it?

Well-documented data
Safety Information · database check
Well characterized

Adverse-effect, pregnancy, and general safety data are on file for most of these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • We hold adverse-effect (side-effect) data for 1 of the 1 matched ingredient.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 1 of 1.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 1 of 1.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

Shilajit is generally well tolerated, though side effects have been reported. A rare case of severe allergy (anaphylaxis) occurred in one woman; another experienced headache.

There's also a single case of high blood pressure linked to electrolyte imbalance after six months of use during pregnancy, though a direct causal link couldn't be confirmed. A critical safety note: unpurified shilajit may contain heavy metals or other contaminants — only use purified, tested brands like this one.

Avoid shilajit during pregnancy, as safety data is insufficient and contamination risk exists. Do not use while breastfeeding; safety is unknown.

Moderate interaction found

Moderate identified

The most serious documented interaction for these ingredients is Moderate. Check your medications for a personalized result.

Why this rating?
  • 1 of the 1 matched ingredient can interact with medications — Shilajit.
  • The most serious interaction on file is rated Moderate.
  • Some involve high-stakes drug classes: diabetes medications.
  • For scale: 86 individual medications appear in the full list. A big number alone doesn't make a product dangerous — what matters is whether YOUR medication is on it, so run yours through the interaction checker on this page.

If you take any antidiabetes medication — insulin, metformin, glibenclamide, or any other — double-check it with the interaction tool on this page before starting shilajit. Moderate-severity risk of low blood sugar exists when combined.

The bottom line

Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no established evidence rating for its marketed use. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.

Super Shilajit may be worth considering if you're interested in shilajit's potential, but the evidence for most claimed benefits hasn't been firmly established yet. If you take any diabetes medication, check your exact drugs before starting — shilajit can increase the risk of low blood sugar.

Avoid it if you're pregnant or breastfeeding. Talk to your pharmacist before you begin.

Antidiabetes Drugs

Taking shilajit with antidiabetes drugs might increase the risk of hypoglycemia.
Most human and animal research shows that shilajit can decrease fasting plasma glucose levels. In an animal model, shilajit 100 mg per kg daily enhanced the glucose-lowering ability of both glibenclamide and metformin when given in combination over a 4 week period. Monitor blood glucose levels closely. Dose adjustments might be necessary.

Super Shilajit 500 mg by SuperSmart: Common Questions

Does Super Shilajit 500 mg by SuperSmart interact with any medications?
Yes. Based on its ingredients, Super Shilajit 500 mg has a known interaction with 86 medications. Use the checker to see how it interacts with a specific drug.
How can one product interact with so many drugs?
Super Shilajit 500 mg contains a single active ingredient, and that one ingredient can interact with many different medications on its own. We check it against each medication and show the mechanism responsible.
Where does this information come from?
The product label data comes from the NIH Dietary Supplement Label Database (DSLD); the interaction data is built on the Natural Medicines database and reviewed by HelloPharmacist pharmacists.
Can I take this if I'm pregnant or breastfeeding?
No. Safety data is insufficient for pregnancy, and contamination risk exists — the guidance is to avoid it. Breastfeeding safety is also unknown, so avoid it then too. Talk to your doctor if you're planning pregnancy or are currently nursing and want to discuss shilajit.
What's PrimaVie?
PrimaVie is the brand name for the shilajit used in this product. It's a standardized, purified form designed to reduce contamination risk — which is important, because unpurified shilajit can contain heavy metals.
Are there any reported side effects?
Side effects are uncommon. Headache has been reported rarely in clinical studies. A severe allergic reaction (anaphylaxis) occurred in one person; another developed high blood pressure after months of use. If you notice unusual symptoms, stop and contact your pharmacist or doctor right away.
Does shilajit actually work for what it claims?
For most uses in our data — Alzheimer disease, sexual dysfunction, athletic performance, prostate health, and bone density — the evidence is still insufficient to make a solid claim. The research just isn't there yet to say it definitely works.
What are the inactive ingredients?
Acacia gum and white rice flour. These are fillers and binders that hold the capsule together — they're not active ingredients.
