What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking Thyroid Calming against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. It’s educational information from our licensed clinical databases and the clinical staff at HelloPharmacist — not medical advice — and we don’t sell or endorse products. Our editorial policy

Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Low disclosure
Thyroid Calming contains four active plant extracts in a liquid base. Bugleweed flowering aerial parts, cactus grandiflorus stem (fresh, undried), lemon balm aerial parts (fresh, undried), and motherwort flowering aerial parts make up the formula.
The base includes cane alcohol, distilled water, and glycerin. This is a liquid extract product, so the active ingredients are concentrated plant materials rather than whole herbs.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
The evidence for these ingredients varies significantly. Lemon balm shows the most promising data—it's rated as possibly effective for cold sores, stress, and depression.
Motherwort is possibly effective for bleeding but has insufficient evidence for anxiety, amenorrhea, asthma, and alcohol use disorder. Bugleweed and cactus grandiflorus lack established effectiveness ratings in our data; for bugleweed specifically, the evidence for hyperthyroidism, insomnia, and premenstrual syndrome is rated insufficient.
If you're considering this product for a specific health concern, talk with your pharmacist about what the research actually shows.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Lemon balm is generally well tolerated in the short term by healthy adults, though long-term safety at high doses isn't well studied. It may occasionally cause dizziness or sedation, though these don't appear more common than with placebo.
Motherwort is tolerated short-term by healthy adults but has limited human safety data; when taken orally in amounts over 3 grams, it may cause uterine bleeding. Cactus grandiflorus can cause mouth burning, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea when taken by mouth.
Bugleweed carries a caution that it may affect thyroid function and should only be used under professional guidance. For pregnancy: bugleweed is rated likely unsafe, and motherwort is also rated likely unsafe because it may stimulate the uterus.
Cactus grandiflorus should be avoided in pregnancy due to insufficient safety data. Lemon balm should be avoided in pregnancy unless your doctor advises otherwise.
For breastfeeding: bugleweed may reduce milk production and should not be used; cactus grandiflorus should be avoided due to lack of reliable safety data; lemon balm requires caution and conversation with your doctor; motherwort lacks sufficient safety information.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before taking Thyroid Calming, check whether you use thyroid hormone replacement (levothyroxine or others), digoxin or other heart medications, monoamine oxidase inhibitors (older antidepressants like phenelzine or tranylcypromine), or any central nervous system depressants such as sedatives, benzodiazepines, or sleep aids. These drug types all have documented Moderate interactions with ingredients in this product.

Thyroid Calming by Herb Pharm Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Thyroid Calming by Herb Pharm contains four active ingredients, and together they interact with a significant range of medications.
The most serious concern is bugleweed: it may reduce how well thyroid hormones (like levothyroxine) work by blocking the body's conversion of T4 to the active T3 form. If you take thyroid replacement therapy, this is a Moderate-severity interaction you'll want to discuss with your doctor or pharmacist before starting.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Lemon balm and motherwort both carry Moderate-severity interactions with central nervous system (CNS) depressants—drugs that slow brain activity, such as sedatives, anti-anxiety medications, and sleep aids. Theoretically, combining either of these ingredients with those drugs could increase drowsiness or sedation.
Cactus grandiflorus (cereus) has two Moderate interactions: it may strengthen the effect of digoxin (a heart medication), and it could theoretically interact with monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs), an older class of antidepressants.
Altogether, these interactions span 273 individual medications. We don't hold interaction data for the proprietary extract blend itself—we've checked each of its named components separately.

Lemon Balm Aerial Parts Extract, Fresh, Undried
Cns Depressants
Theoretically, concomitant use of lemon balm might have additive effects with CNS depressant drugs.
Lemon balm seems to have CNS depressant activity in animals and in humans.
Thyroid Hormone
Theoretically, lemon balm might interfere with thyroid hormone replacement therapy.
In vitro, constituents of lemon balm extract bind to thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH), preventing TSH receptor-binding and leading to the inhibition of TSH-stimulated adenylate cyclase activity. In animals, lemon balm extract has been shown to decrease levels of circulating TSH and inhibit thyroid secretion.
Motherwort Flowering Aerial Parts Extract
Cns Depressants
Theoretically, taking motherwort concomitantly with other CNS depressants may increase the risk of sedation.
Motherwort has been reported to cause CNS depression and sedation.
Bugleweed flowering aerial parts extract
Thyroid Hormone
Theoretically, bugleweed may alter thyroid function.
