Here's the simple version: alfentanil is a strong, fast-acting opioid pain medicine used mainly during medical procedures and anesthesia. It already calms the nervous system, slowing breathing and making you sleepy. Lemon balm appears to have its own mild calming, sedative-type effect. Put them together and those effects may stack up, so you could feel extra drowsy, more dizzy, or have slower, shallower breathing.

To be fair, this concern is mostly theoretical and based on lower-quality studies, not strong proof. Still, with a powerful opioid like alfentanil, it's smart to play it safe. Since this drug is given in supervised settings, let your anesthesia team, doctor, or pharmacist know about any lemon balm you take so they can plan around it.
