CNS DEPRESSANTS
Why this applies to Tasimelteon
Tasimelteon falls under CNS DEPRESSANTS — the group Lemon Balm interacts with.
Lemon balm seems to have CNS depressant activity in animals and in humans.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the simple picture: Tasimelteon (Hetlioz) is a sleep medicine that gently nudges your body's clock toward sleep. Lemon balm, on its own, also seems to have a mild calming, sedating effect in people and animals. So when you pair them, the worry isn't that one breaks down the other. It's that their relaxing effects may simply stack up, leaving you feeling more drowsy, groggy, or foggy than usual, especially the next morning.
I'll be honest, this is mostly a theoretical concern based on limited evidence, and many folks tolerate the combo fine. Still, go easy, avoid driving until you know how you feel, and check with your pharmacist or doctor before adding concentrated lemon balm supplements.
