This combination product contains codeine, an opioid pain reliever that can make you feel drowsy and relaxed. Lemon balm appears to have its own mild calming, sedative-like effect on the brain. So when you pair the two, the worry is that those effects could stack up. You might feel sleepier than usual, a bit foggy, dizzy, or less steady on your feet.

To be fair, this is mostly a theoretical concern. The lemon balm research comes from small studies and animal data, so we can't say exactly how strong this will be for any one person. Still, since codeine already causes sedation, it's worth being cautious. Check with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them, and avoid driving until you know how you feel.
