What is this page for?

Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Low disclosure
Ultra Mega Duo Dophilus contains 9 active ingredients, all live probiotic bacteria species. The product includes Bifidobacterium longum, Bifidobacterium bifidum, Bifidobacterium lactis, Lactobacillus acidophilus, Lactobacillus plantarum, Lactobacillus rhamnosus, Lactobacillus delbrueckii, and Lactobacillus salivarius, along with FOS (fructooligosaccharides), which acts as a food source for probiotics.
These live organisms are designed to support gut and digestive health. The capsules also contain inactive ingredients: vegetarian capsule material, cellulose, magnesium stearate, vegetable stearin, and silica.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
Evidence for these probiotics varies by strain and condition. Lactobacillus acidophilus shows possibly effective ratings for irritable bowel syndrome, Helicobacter pylori infection, antibiotic-associated diarrhea, and bacterial vaginosis.
Bifidobacterium bifidum is rated possibly effective for irritable bowel syndrome and respiratory tract infections. Lactobacillus delbrueckii and Bifidobacterium longum lack established evidence for the conditions listed in our data.
For many other conditions listed—allergic rhinitis, asthma, cognitive decline, and anxiety—the evidence across these strains is insufficient to rate. The data we hold does not establish effectiveness for every use you may have in mind, so talk with your doctor about what outcome you're hoping for.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
These probiotics are generally well tolerated in healthy adults and children. However, caution is advised if you're seriously ill or have a weakened immune system—rare cases of bacterial bloodstream infection (bacteremia) and sepsis have been reported in critically ill and preterm infants using probiotics.
Gastrointestinal side effects, when they occur, are uncommon and include abdominal discomfort, bloating, flatulence, constipation, and rarely diarrhea or vomiting. One person in a trial reported a dry cough.
For pregnancy and breastfeeding, Lactobacillus acidophilus and Bifidobacterium bifidum are rated possibly safe during pregnancy. Data for Lactobacillus delbrueckii in pregnancy are limited, so check with your doctor before use while pregnant or nursing.
Breastfeeding safety data are not well studied for these strains, so discuss this with your healthcare provider first.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
If you take antibiotic drugs, do not take this product at the same time. Antibiotics can kill the live organisms and reduce the probiotic's effectiveness.
Your doctor or pharmacist can tell you how many hours apart to space them. We hold no interaction data for the other ingredients we could not check, so use the search tool on this page with your complete medication list, or confirm with your own pharmacist before starting.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFormula with limited ingredient disclosure with some supporting evidence behind its ingredients' uses. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
This product is a multi-strain probiotic designed mainly for gut and digestive support, with some evidence backing its use for irritable bowel syndrome and certain infections. The main caution is timing with antibiotics—you'll need to separate doses to protect the live organisms.
If you're critically ill, immunocompromised, or pregnant or breastfeeding, talk with your doctor or pharmacist before starting, as safety data are limited in these groups.
