ANTIBIOTIC DRUGS
Why this applies to Phenazopyridine, Sulfisoxazole
Phenazopyridine, Sulfisoxazole falls under ANTIBIOTIC DRUGS — the group Bifidobacterium Longum interacts with.
Since B. longum preparations usually contain live and active organisms, simultaneously taking antibiotics might kill a significant number of the organisms. Tell patients to separate administration of antibiotics and B. longum preparations by at least 2 hours.
Interaction has not been documented in well-controlled studies, however, the interaction has been demonstrated in some small human studies or in controlled animal studies in conjunction with multiple case reports..
Here's the thing to keep in mind: Azo-Gantrisin contains sulfisoxazole, which is a sulfa antibiotic, paired with phenazopyridine to ease that burning, urgent feeling of a urinary tract infection. The interaction here doesn't change how the medicine works in your body. Instead, the antibiotic part can work against your probiotic. Since Bifidobacterium longum is made of live bacteria, the sulfisoxazole may kill off a good chunk of those friendly organisms, so you simply get less benefit from the supplement.
This is a theoretical concern based on how antibiotics behave, not something proven in studies, so it's nothing to be alarmed about. A simple fix is to space them apart by at least 2 hours. Your UTI medicine stays just as effective. Check with your pharmacist if you'd like help timing the doses.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Phenazopyridine, Sulfisoxazole page
“Azo-Gantrisin pairs sulfisoxazole, a sulfa antibiotic, with phenazopyridine to ease urinary pain, and I'd want anyone taking it to pause before adding supplements. Two of the 68 ingredients on file rate major, and both can undercut the treatment itself: PABA feeds bacteria the raw material the sulfa drug is built to block, and activate…”
