Vanadyl Sulfate Ingredients & Drug Interactions
What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking Vanadyl Sulfate against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. It’s educational information from our licensed clinical databases and the clinical staff at HelloPharmacist — not medical advice — and we don’t sell or endorse products. Our editorial policy

Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: vanadium, supplied as vanadyl sulfate. Vanadium is a trace mineral that plays a role in bone and carbohydrate metabolism.
The tablet also includes several inactive ingredients — microcrystalline cellulose, croscarmellose sodium, stearic acid, vegetable stearate, and silica — which are standard binders and fillers that help form and hold the tablet together.
Does it work?
Strong evidence
The evidence for vanadium is mixed and depends on the condition. It's rated Likely Effective for vanadium deficiency — which is rare in people eating a normal diet, but the data supports its use when a true deficiency is confirmed.
For athletic performance, diabetes, high cholesterol (hyperlipidemia), and cancer, there isn't enough reliable evidence to rate whether vanadium works. If you're considering this supplement for any of those conditions, talk with your pharmacist or doctor about whether the current evidence supports it for your situation.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Vanadium is generally well tolerated at doses below the tolerable upper intake level of 1.8 mg daily. Above that, you may experience gastrointestinal side effects — abdominal discomfort, diarrhea, gas, and nausea.
Long-term use at high doses has rarely caused kidney damage. Allergic reactions to vanadium metal, including rashes and contact dermatitis, have been reported in people with direct occupational or implant exposure.
During pregnancy, there isn't enough safety information, so vanadium supplements should be avoided. The same applies to breastfeeding — safety is unknown, so it's best not to use vanadium supplements while nursing.
If you're pregnant, planning pregnancy, or breastfeeding, talk with your doctor or pharmacist before taking this product.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
If you take blood thinners (anticoagulants) or antiplatelet drugs like warfarin, clopidogrel, or aspirin, check with your pharmacist — vanadium may increase bleeding risk (Moderate severity). Also double-check before using if you're on diabetes medications, since vanadium could increase the effect and lower your blood sugar too far (Moderate severity).
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with strong clinical evidence behind its ingredients' uses. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Vanadyl Sulfate may be worth considering if you have a confirmed vanadium deficiency, though that's uncommon. If you take blood thinners, antiplatelet drugs, or diabetes medications, check with your pharmacist before starting — the interaction risk is real.
Stick to doses at or below the recommended upper limit to avoid stomach upset and potential kidney issues with long-term high-dose use.

Vanadyl Sulfate by Douglas Laboratories Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Vanadyl Sulfate by Douglas Laboratories contains vanadium, which has documented interactions with two medication categories.
The most serious concern is with blood thinners and antiplatelet drugs (such as warfarin, clopidogrel, and aspirin). In laboratory studies, vanadium prolongs clotting time, which theoretically increases your bleeding risk when combined with these medications — a Moderate severity interaction.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Vanadium also interacts with diabetes medications at Moderate severity. Small clinical studies suggest vanadium may increase how sensitive your body is to insulin and lower blood glucose levels, which means taking it alongside diabetes drugs could raise your risk of low blood sugar (hypoglycemia).
Altogether, these interactions span 207 individual medications. Before you start this product, check your exact prescriptions with the medication checker on this page — especially if you take any blood thinners, antiplatelet agents, or diabetes medications.
