Every active ingredient lists its own amount on the label.

Why this rating?
  • The label discloses an exact amount for 1 of its 1 active ingredient.
  • No proprietary blends here — you can verify the dose of every single component.

Vanadyl Sulfate is the single active ingredient in this product. It's a form of the mineral vanadium, which your body uses in very small amounts.

This supplement contains the vanadyl sulfate form specifically. The tablet also contains several inactive ingredients — lactose, microcrystalline cellulose, croscarmellose sodium, stearic acid, magnesium stearate, and silicon dioxide — which help hold the tablet together and aid absorption.

Does it work?

Not established
Evidence for Intended Use · database check
By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed
Not established

The graded evidence we hold for these ingredients covers different conditions than the ones this product is marketed for, so there's no established rating for its stated use — see Vanadium's own graded uses on its monograph.

Why this rating?
  • The label markets this product for: reduces post-exercise fatigue.
  • We looked for evidence on: Athletic performance, exercise recovery, muscle fatigue, endurance.
  • The closest evidence on file: Vanadium is rated "Insufficient Reliable Evidence To Rate" for Athletic performance (Natural Medicines).

The evidence for vanadium supplements is mixed. It's rated likely effective for vanadium deficiency, which is rare in people eating a normal diet.

For athletic performance, diabetes, high cholesterol (hyperlipidemia), and cancer, the evidence is insufficient to say whether it works — there simply aren't enough reliable studies to draw a conclusion.

How safe is it?

Well-documented data
Safety Information · database check
Well characterized

Adverse-effect, pregnancy, and general safety data are on file for most of these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • We hold adverse-effect (side-effect) data for 1 of the 1 matched ingredient.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 1 of 1.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 1 of 1.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

Vanadium is generally well tolerated at dietary doses. But supplement doses, especially those above 1.8 mg daily, may cause side effects — mainly stomach troubles like nausea, diarrhea, bloating, and discomfort.

At high doses taken long-term, there's a rare risk of kidney damage. Allergic reactions to vanadium are uncommon but have been reported, causing rashes and itching.

The safety data advises against taking vanadium supplements during pregnancy, and there isn't enough information to know whether it's safe while breastfeeding — talk with your doctor or pharmacist for personalized advice.

Moderate interaction found
Known Interaction Concern · database check
Moderate identified

The most serious documented interaction for these ingredients is Moderate. Check your medications for a personalized result.

Why this rating?
  • 1 of the 1 matched ingredient can interact with medications — Vanadium.
  • The most serious interaction on file is rated Moderate.
  • Some involve high-stakes drug classes: anticoagulant / antiplatelet drugs; diabetes medications.
  • For scale: 208 individual medications appear in the full list. A big number alone doesn't make a product dangerous — what matters is whether YOUR medication is on it, so run yours through the interaction checker on this page.

Before you start, double-check with your pharmacist if you take blood thinners or antiplatelet drugs (warfarin, aspirin, clopidogrel, etc.) — vanadium may raise your bleeding risk. Also flag any diabetes medications you're on, since vanadium may lower blood sugar.

Altogether, these interactions span 207 individual medications.

The bottom line

Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no established evidence rating for its marketed use. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.

If you take blood thinners or diabetes medications, you need to check with your pharmacist before adding this supplement — the interaction risk is real. The evidence for what it actually does is limited outside of treating a true vanadium deficiency, which is very rare.

Your pharmacist can help you weigh whether this product makes sense for you and your medications.

Anticoagulant/Antiplatelet Drugs

Theoretically, vanadium might increase the risk of bleeding when taken with anticoagulant/antiplatelet drugs.
In vitro research shows that the sodium orthovanadate form of vanadium prolongs clotting time, likely through inhibition of thrombin and factor Xa.

Likelihood Possible Evidence D
Antidiabetes Drugs

Theoretically, vanadium might increase the risk of hypoglycemia when taken with antidiabetes drugs.
A few very small clinical studies in patients with type 2 diabetes show that the vanadyl sulfate form of vanadium increases insulin sensitivity and might lower blood glucose levels.

Vanadyl Sulfate by Ultimate Nutrition Platinum Series: Common Questions

Does Vanadyl Sulfate by Ultimate Nutrition Platinum Series interact with any medications?
Yes. Based on its ingredients, Vanadyl Sulfate has a known interaction with 208 medications. Use the checker to see how it interacts with a specific drug.
How can one product interact with so many drugs?
Vanadyl Sulfate contains a single active ingredient, and that one ingredient can interact with many different medications on its own. We check it against each medication and show the mechanism responsible.
Where does this information come from?
The product label data comes from the NIH Dietary Supplement Label Database (DSLD); the interaction data is built on the Natural Medicines database and reviewed by HelloPharmacist pharmacists.
Is this safe if I'm pregnant or breastfeeding?
The safety data advises against taking vanadium supplements during pregnancy. If you're breastfeeding, there isn't enough information to know whether it's safe — talk with your doctor or pharmacist about whether this product is right for you right now.
What's vanadium actually supposed to do?
We have solid evidence that it helps correct a vanadium deficiency, though that's very rare in people eating normally. For building muscle, managing blood sugar, or lowering cholesterol, the evidence isn't established yet — there simply aren't enough reliable studies.
What side effects might I get?
At the upper safe level of 1.8 mg daily, it's generally well tolerated. Higher doses may cause stomach upset — nausea, diarrhea, bloating, or discomfort. Long-term use at high doses carries a rare risk of kidney damage.
Can I be allergic to vanadium?
Yes, though allergies are uncommon. People exposed to vanadium metal have developed itchy rashes, eye irritation, and contact dermatitis confirmed by skin testing. If you develop a rash or itching after taking this, stop and tell your pharmacist.
