Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
Vanadyl Sulfate Spray is a single-ingredient product. Its active ingredient is vanadium sulfate, a mineral form of vanadium.
The spray also contains several inactive ingredients — purified water, fructose, citric acid, glycerine, sodium bisulfate, sodium benzoate, and cherry flavor — which are used to deliver and preserve the formula.
Does it work?
Strong evidence
The evidence we have supports vanadium for vanadium deficiency, rated Likely Effective. For other uses listed — athletic performance, cancer, diabetes, and high cholesterol — the evidence is not established enough to rate.
Small studies suggest vanadium may help with blood sugar control in type 2 diabetes, but larger, stronger evidence is needed before we can say it works for that purpose.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Vanadium is well tolerated when taken in small amounts — up to 1.8 mg daily. Higher doses can cause stomach upset, including nausea, diarrhea, abdominal discomfort, and gas.
Long-term use at high doses has rarely caused kidney damage. Allergic reactions to vanadium are uncommon but have occurred; they can include itching, rashes, and skin irritation.
The safety data advises against vanadium supplements during pregnancy and while breastfeeding, because there isn't enough information to know they're safe in those situations.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Check before using this product if you take blood thinners or antiplatelet drugs (Moderate risk of increased bleeding) or diabetes medications (Moderate risk of low blood sugar). These are the medication types with documented interactions with vanadium.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with strong clinical evidence behind its ingredients' uses. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
This product is designed for people who may be deficient in vanadium, though such deficiency is rare in the general population. If you take blood thinners, antiplatelet drugs, or diabetes medications, talk with your pharmacist before starting — the interactions are real and worth checking against your specific prescriptions.
Stick to the label dose and watch for stomach symptoms or unusual bleeding or bruising.

Vanadyl Sulfate Spray by Douglas Laboratories Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Vanadyl Sulfate Spray by Douglas Laboratories contains one active ingredient — vanadium sulfate — that interacts with medications in two key areas.
The most serious concern is with blood thinners and antiplatelet drugs (such as warfarin, aspirin, and clopidogrel): vanadium may theoretically increase bleeding risk by prolonging clotting time. This is a Moderate severity interaction.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
The second area involves diabetes medications. Vanadium may theoretically increase the risk of low blood sugar (hypoglycemia) when combined with antidiabetes drugs, since small clinical studies suggest vanadium can improve insulin sensitivity and lower blood glucose.
This is also Moderate severity.
Altogether, these interactions span 207 individual medications. If you take any blood thinner, antiplatelet agent, or diabetes medication, check your exact drugs with the search tool on this page before starting this product.
