Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: vitamin B12 (cyanocobalamin), at a high dose of 2500 micrograms per tablet. The inactive ingredients are mannitol, xylitol, crospovidone, stearic acid, silica, lemon flavor, citric acid, sodium citrate, and vegetable magnesium stearate — these are fillers and binders that help form the tablet.
Does it work?
Strong evidence
Vitamin B12 is effective for treating B12 deficiency and Imerslund-Grasbeck disease (a rare genetic condition affecting B12 absorption). It's also likely effective for cyanide poisoning.
The evidence suggests it may help with canker sores and postherpetic neuralgia (nerve pain after shingles), though the data for these uses is less robust.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
B12 is generally very well tolerated when taken by mouth. Your body excretes excess B12 in your urine, so there's no established upper limit and no concern about overdose.
Allergic reactions (rash, itching, hives) are uncommon but have been reported; in rare cases, someone with a cobalt allergy theoretically could react to the cobalt in the B12 molecule. B12 is considered safe during pregnancy and breastfeeding at recommended doses — in fact, it's actually needed at those times.
Follow your healthcare provider's advice on your dose.
Meds to double-check
Minor interactions only
If you take metformin (Glucophage) for diabetes, let your pharmacist know you're starting B12 — the medication can lower your B12 levels, which is why supplementation may be useful for you, but it's good to track together.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with clinical evidence supporting its stated purpose. Only minor medication interactions are documented, and safety information is well characterized.
This high-dose B12 tablet is a solid choice if you have a documented deficiency or take metformin long-term. If you're pregnant, breastfeeding, or on any regular medications, a quick check with your pharmacist before starting is a good idea — especially if you're on metformin.
