Vinpurazine Ingredients & Drug Interactions
What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking Vinpurazine against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Low disclosure
Vinpurazine contains three active ingredients. Vinpocetine is a compound derived from the periwinkle plant that's been studied for memory and circulation.
Huperzine A is an alkaloid extracted from club moss that works on a nerve messenger in the brain. Rosemary aerial parts extract is a concentrated form of the culinary herb.
The product also contains rice bran and hypromellose, which are inactive ingredients used to fill and bind the capsule.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
The evidence for what this product can do is mixed. Vinpocetine is rated possibly effective for dementia, but the other proposed uses — tinnitus, motion sickness, stroke recovery, and chronic fatigue — lack reliable evidence to rate.
Huperzine A is rated possibly effective for Alzheimer disease, but evidence for athletic performance, cognitive impairment, vascular dementia, depression, and memory is insufficient. Rosemary is rated possibly effective for memory, but evidence for other uses like alopecia and fatty liver disease is insufficient.
Bottom line: the strongest case is for vinpocetine and huperzine A in dementia-type conditions, but you should talk with your doctor about whether this product fits your specific situation.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Vinpocetine is generally well tolerated short-term, but long-term safety isn't well established. The most common side effects are anxiety, dizziness, headache, flushing, stomach discomfort, sleep disturbances, and hives.
Serious side effects are rare but can include a drop in white blood cells, heart rhythm problems, and seizures. Huperzine A is also generally well tolerated orally, but it's a pharmacologically active compound that needs medical guidance.
Its most common side effects are dose-dependent and include blurred vision, constipation, diarrhea, dizziness, dry mouth, insomnia, nausea, sweating, and vomiting. It may also lower your heart rate.
Rosemary in normal food amounts is safe, but concentrated extracts require caution; topically it can cause allergic reactions, and orally the undiluted oil might cause seizures. The FDA has warned that people who are pregnant or could become pregnant should not use vinpocetine.
Huperzine A and rosemary (in medicinal doses) should also be avoided in pregnancy due to insufficient safety data. Neither huperzine A nor the high doses of rosemary studied have enough data to confirm safety while breastfeeding.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Check your medications against this product if you take blood thinners or antiplatelet drugs (including warfarin, aspirin, and related salicylate-containing pain relievers), diabetes medications, anticholinergic drugs, cholinergic drugs, or medications processed through your liver's CYP2C9 or CYP1A2 pathways. The blood thinner and diabetes interactions are the most serious and common across the ingredients.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFormula with limited ingredient disclosure with some supporting evidence for its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Vinpurazine is aimed at people concerned about memory and dementia, particularly with vinpocetine and huperzine A on board. However, it's not for anyone taking blood thinners, diabetes drugs, anticholinergic or cholinergic medications, or certain salicylate-based pain relievers without first checking with their own doctor or pharmacist.
If you're pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding, talk with your healthcare provider before taking it — the safety data advises against it. It's a supplement with real pharmacological effects, so it deserves real medical oversight.

Vinpurazine by Health Concerns Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Vinpurazine by Health Concerns contains three active ingredients — vinpocetine, huperzine A, and rosemary aerial parts extract — and together they interact with a substantial number of medications.
The most serious interaction is vinpocetine's effect on blood thinners (anticoagulants) and antiplatelet drugs: it may increase your bleeding risk by reducing how your blood cells clump together and how thick your blood is.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Rosemary adds overlapping concerns with blood thinners and antiplatelet drugs, and also raises the risk of low blood sugar (hypoglycemia) if you take diabetes medications. It may also have additive effects with salicylate-containing pain relievers like aspirin, choline magnesium trisalicylate, and salsalate.
Additionally, rosemary might theoretically reduce the effectiveness of certain medications broken down by your liver's CYP1A2 enzyme.
Huperzine A interacts with anticholinergic drugs (which dry the mouth and are used for various conditions) by potentially reversing their effects, and with cholinergic drugs (which boost a nerve messenger called acetylcholine) by potentially boosting their effects and side effects too much. Vinpocetine also theoretically may increase levels of drugs your liver processes through its CYP2C9 pathway, though this hasn't been seen in people yet.
Altogether, these interactions span 607 individual medications. Before you start this product, run your exact medications through the checker below — especially if you take any blood thinner, blood sugar medication, anticholinergic, or cholinergic drug.

For each ingredient in Vinpurazine with known interactions, here are the types of medications they can affect. Open any type for the detail — or search your exact drug in the checker above.
Rosemary Aerial Parts Extract
Anticoagulant/Antiplatelet Drugs
Theoretically, rosemary may increase the risk of bleeding if used with anticoagulant or antiplatelet drugs.
In vitro and animal research suggests that rosemary inhibits platelet aggregation.
Antidiabetes Drugs
Theoretically, taking rosemary with antidiabetes drugs might increase the risk of hypoglycemia.
Animal research shows that rosemary extract can decrease blood glucose levels in diabetic models. However, research in humans is conflicting. Although rosemary powder decreased blood glucose levels in healthy adults, no change in blood glucose levels was seen in adults with type 2 diabetes, most of whom were taking antidiabetes drugs.
Aspirin
Theoretically, rosemary might have additive effects with salicylate-containing drugs such as aspirin.
Rosemary is reported to contain salicylates.
Choline Magnesium Trisalicylate (Trilisate)
Theoretically, rosemary might have additive effects with salicylate-containing drugs such as choline magnesium trisalicylate.
Rosemary is reported to contain salicylate.
Salsalate (Disalcid)
Theoretically, rosemary might have additive effects with salicylate-containing drugs such as salsalate.
Rosemary is reported to contain salicylate.
Cytochrome P450 1A2 (Cyp1A2) Substrates
Theoretically, rosemary might decrease the levels and clinical effects of CYP1A2 substrates.
In vitro research shows that rosemary induces CYP1A2 enzymes. This effect has not been reported in humans.
Huperzine A
Anticholinergic Drugs
Theoretically, huperzine A might decrease the effects of anticholinergic drugs.
Huperzine A has acetylcholinesterase (AChE) inhibiting effects. In animal models, huperzine A reversed cognitive deficits induced by scopolamine, an anticholinergic drug.
Cholinergic Drugs
Theoretically, concurrent use of huperzine A with cholinergic drugs might increase the effects and side effects of these medications.
Huperzine A can inhibit acetylcholinesterase (AChE) and might cause cumulative effects if used with cholinergic drugs.
Vinpocetine
Anticoagulant/Antiplatelet Drugs
Vinpocetine might increase the risk of bleeding when taken with anticoagulant or antiplatelet drugs.
Clinical research shows that vinpocetine decreases red blood cell aggregation, as well as plasma and whole blood viscosity. This effect has been seen with intravenous vinpocetine 1 mg/kg and oral vinpocetine 30 mg daily. Vinpocetine also seems to have antiplatelet effects.
Cytochrome P450 2C9 (Cyp2C9) Substrates
Theoretically, vinpocetine might increase levels of drugs metabolized by CYP2C9.
In vitro research shows that vinpocetine weakly inhibits CYP2C9. However, this effect has not been reported in humans.
Warfarin (Coumadin)
Vinpocetine might modestly increase the risk of bleeding when taken with warfarin.
Clinical research shows that the combination of warfarin and vinpocetine leads to slight increases in prothrombin time and the area under the concentration curve for warfarin. However, these increases were small, and researchers suggest that this interaction is not likely to be clinically significant in most patients.
