Vitalica contains two active ingredients: sulforaphane glucosinolate (a compound from broccoli) and broccoli seed raffinate. Both are plant extracts meant to deliver compounds found naturally in broccoli and related cruciferous vegetables.
The product also includes three inactive ingredients — a vegetable capsule, calcium ascorbate, and microcrystalline cellulose — which are typical fillers and capsule materials.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
Sulforaphane shows possibly effective evidence for prostate cancer. Broccoli seed raffinate is possibly effective for colorectal cancer.
For other conditions — including asthma, hay fever, various other cancers, fibromyalgia, and bladder or gastric cancer — the evidence we hold is either insufficient to rate or possibly ineffective (hay fever with sulforaphane). How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Sulforaphane from food is considered safe, but concentrated supplements like these are less studied for long-term use. The most common side effects reported orally are bowel discomfort, heartburn, stomach upset, and vomiting.
Headache, insomnia, irritability, and weight gain have also been reported in clinical studies. Broccoli as food is generally fine, but concentrated extracts in this product are less well established; loose stools, diarrhea, abdominal pain, and cramping have been reported, especially at higher doses.
For pregnancy: concentrated sulforaphane supplements have not been proven safe, so the safety data advises against use — stick to normal food amounts instead. For breastfeeding: there isn't enough information on supplement-level doses to know either way; talk with your doctor or pharmacist for personalized advice.
Broccoli seed raffinate is rated likely safe in pregnancy and lactation.

Formula
The seed makes the difference. This product contains BroccoRaphanin, the original sulforaphane glucosinolate (glucoraphanin) derived from CS Health LLC's proprietary broccoli seed variety. Our seed was bred by natural selection (non-GMO) and contains the highest concentration of sulforaphane glucosinolate available. On ingestion, Vitalica converts to sulforaphane in the body, activates Phase II enzymes, protects DNA from free radicals and promotes immune system health.

Sulforaphane Glucosinolate
Cytochrome P450 1A2 (Cyp1A2) Substrates
Theoretically, sulforaphane might alter the levels and clinical effects of CYP1A2 substrates.
Animal and in vitro research shows that sulforaphane inhibits CYP1A2 enzyme activity. However, its precursor glucoraphanin also appears to increase the expression of the CYP1A2 enzyme, which could lead to increased metabolism of CYP1A2 substrates. These effects have not been reported in humans.
Cytochrome P450 2E1 (Cyp2E1) Substrates
Theoretically, sulforaphane might increase the levels and effects of CYP2E1 substrates.
In vitro evidence shows that sulforaphane inhibits CYP2E1 enzymes. This interaction has not been reported in humans.
Cytochrome P450 3A4 (Cyp3A4) Substrates
Theoretically, sulforaphane might increase the levels and effects of CYP3A4 substrates.
Animal and in vitro research shows that sulforaphane inhibits CYP3A4 enzyme activity and downregulates its expression. This interaction has not been reported in humans.
Broccoli seed raffinate
Cytochrome P450 1A2 (Cyp1A2) Substrates
Theoretically, broccoli might reduce the levels and effects of drugs metabolized by CYP1A2.
Pharmacokinetic research in humans shows that eating 500 grams of fresh broccoli daily for 6-12 days can increase CYP1A2 activity by 10% to 200%. Induction of CYP1A2 activity by broccoli is attributed to its glucosinolate constituents.
Cytochrome P450 2A6 (Cyp2A6) Substrates
Theoretically, broccoli might reduce the levels and effects of drugs metabolized by CYP2A6.
Pharmacokinetic research in humans shows that eating 500 grams of broccoli daily for 6 days increases CYP2A6 activity by 135% to 550%. Induction of CYP2A6 activity is attributed to its glucosinolate constituents.
