Not established
The evidence backing these ingredients isn't established in the data we hold. Moringa has insufficient reliable evidence for iron-deficiency anemia, asthma, athletic performance, diabetes, HIV/AIDS, and high cholesterol.
Cat's claw likewise lacks sufficient reliable evidence for hay fever, Alzheimer disease, asthma, osteoporosis, cancer, and chronic fatigue syndrome. If you're considering this product for a specific health goal, talk with your pharmacist about what the current research actually supports.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Moringa leaf appears generally well tolerated as a food, but high-quality safety studies are limited. The most common side effect is transient diarrhea; in one trial, 25% of people taking 8 grams daily experienced it.
Rarely, allergic reactions including anaphylaxis have been reported, and Stevens-Johnson syndrome (a serious skin and mouth reaction) has been linked to moringa leaf consumption. Avoid medicinal amounts because the root and bark may stimulate the uterus, and safety data are lacking.
Cat's claw is generally well tolerated short-term in healthy adults, but long-term safety isn't well studied. Case reports have linked it to kidney injury in some patients.
In clinical trials, anemia occurred in 12% of patients; headache, fatigue, and insomnia each appeared in 2–4%, and neuropathy (nerve damage) in 8% — though these patients had advanced cancer with no other treatment options, so causation isn't certain.

Suggested/Recommended/Usage/Directions
Shake well before each use. Take 30 minutes before meals: Moderate support: 20 drops twice daily. Maximum support: 30 drops twice daily. Dosing may also be directed by your physician. Put drops in 4 oz (120 mL) of water and wait one minute before drinking.

Uncaria tomentosa Bark Extract
Anticoagulant/Antiplatelet Drugs
Theoretically, cat's claw may increase the risk of bleeding if used with anticoagulant or antiplatelet drugs.
Cat's claw contains rhynchophylline and isorhynchophylline. Animal research suggests that these alkaloids can inhibit platelet aggregation. This interaction has not been reported in humans.
Antihypertensive Drugs
Theoretically, taking cat's claw with antihypertensive drugs might increase the risk of hypotension.
Cat's claw contains rhynchophylline. In vitro and animal research suggests that rhynchophylline can lower blood pressure. This interaction has not been reported in humans.
Calcium Channel Blockers
Theoretically, taking cat's claw with calcium channel blockers might increase the risk of hypotension.
Cat's claw contains various alkaloids, including rhynchophylline, isorhynchophylline, corynoxeine, and isocorynoxiene. Animal research suggests that these alkaloids can lower blood pressure by acting as calcium channel blockers. This interaction has not been reported in humans.
Cytochrome P450 3A4 (Cyp3A4) Substrates
Theoretically, cat's claw might increase or decrease the levels and effects of drugs metabolized by CYP3A4.
Cat's claw may affect the clearance of drugs metabolized by CYP3A4. In vitro research shows that cat's claw can inhibit CYP3A4 enzymes. In one case report, a patient taking cat's claw (at an unspecified dose) experienced increased serum levels of atazanavir, ritonavir, and saquinavir, all of which are CYP3A4 substrates. Levels returned to normal 15 days after discontinuation of the cat's claw supplement, suggesting inhibition of CYP3A4 by cat's claw. In contrast, animal research suggests that rhynchophylline, an alkaloid contained in cat's claw, induces CYP3A expression and accelerates the metabolism of nirmatrelvir, the active component in the nirmatrelvir/ritonavir combination product.
Immunosuppressants
Theoretically, cat's claw might interfere with immunosuppressive therapy.
In human and laboratory research, cat's claw has been shown to have immunostimulating activity. It stimulates phagocytosis and increases respiratory cellular activity and the mobility of leukocytes. Theoretically, this could interfere with the activity of immunosuppressant medications.
Nirmatrelvir/Ritonavir (Paxlovid)
Theoretically, cat's claw may decrease the levels of nirmatrelvir.
Cat's claw contains rhynchophylline. Animal research suggests that this alkaloid induces CYP3A expression, thereby accelerating the metabolism of nirmatrelvir, the active component in the nirmatrelvir/ritonavir combination product. This interaction has not been reported in humans.
Moringa oleifera Leaf Extract
Cytochrome P450 3A4 (Cyp3A4) Substrates
Theoretically, moringa might increase or decrease levels of CYP3A4 substrates.
Some in vitro research suggests that moringa inhibits cytochrome P450 3A4 (CYP3A4). However, other in vitro research suggests that moringa extract induces CYP3A4 enzymes. A pharmacokinetic study in patients with HIV shows no change in the pharmacokinetics of nevirapine, which is partially metabolized by CYP3A4, when administered concomitantly with moringa leaf powder 1.85 grams daily for 14 days.
Levothyroxine (Synthroid, Others)
Theoretically, moringa leaf can antagonize the effects of levothyroxine.
Animal research suggests that moringa aqueous leaf extract might reduce serum triiodothyronine (T3) concentrations by inhibiting the peripheral conversion of thyroxine (T4) to T3.
P-Glycoprotein Substrates
Theoretically, moringa leaf extract might increase the levels and clinical effects of P-glycoprotein substrates.
In vitro research shows that moringa leaf extract inhibits renal P-glycoprotein transport activity. So far, this reaction has not been reported in humans.
Antidiabetes Drugs
Theoretically, moringa might have additive effects when used with antidiabetes drugs; however, research is conflicting.
Animal research shows that moringa can lower blood glucose levels. However, research in humans has not shown consistent blood glucose lowering effects.
Cytochrome P450 1A2 (Cyp1A2) Substrates
Theoretically, moringa might decrease the levels and clinical effects of CYP1A2 substrates.
In vitro research shows that moringa extract induces CYP1A2 enzymes.
Nevirapine (Viramune)
Moringa leaf is unlikely to have a clinically significant interaction with nevirapine.
Nevirapine is partially metabolized by cytochrome P450 3A4 (CYP3A4). In vitro evidence suggests that moringa inhibits CYP3A4. However, a pharmacokinetic study in patients with HIV shows no change in nevirapine pharmacokinetics when administered concomitantly with moringa leaf powder 1.85 grams daily for 14 days.
