Alvimopan falls under P-GLYCOPROTEIN SUBSTRATES — the group Moringa interacts with.

Theoretically, moringa leaf extract might increase the levels and clinical effects of P-glycoprotein substrates.
In vitro research shows that moringa leaf extract inhibits renal P-glycoprotein transport activity. So far, this reaction has not been reported in humans.

Here's the gist for alvimopan (Entereg). This medicine relies on a cellular pump called P-glycoprotein, which helps move it around your body. Lab studies suggest moringa leaf extract may slow that pump down a bit. In theory, that could let a little more alvimopan stick around than usual, which might mean slightly stronger effects from the drug.

Now, the honest part: this comes only from test-tube research, and nothing like it has actually been seen in people. Alvimopan is also given as a short hospital course around bowel surgery, so the overlap with a daily moringa supplement is usually small. Still, since your surgical team manages this medication closely, it's worth mentioning any moringa use to your pharmacist or doctor so they have the full picture.

What Is Alvimopan Used For?

Alvimopan capsules are used in hospitals to help the digestive tract recover more quickly after surgery that involves removing part of the bowel (partial bowel resection with primary anastomosis — meaning the remaining ends are reconnected). After this type of surgery, the bowel often temporarily stops working, a condition called postoperative ileus.

This medication is only given during a short hospital stay and is not for long-term or home use.
