What’s inside
Full disclosure
Whey Isolate Vanilla Creme contains 22 ingredients, of which the active component is whey protein isolate—a concentrated form of milk protein commonly used in athletic and nutritional supplements. It also includes a complete amino acid profile: essential amino acids (L-leucine, L-isoleucine, L-valine, L-phenylalanine, L-threonine, L-tryptophan, L-lysine, L-methionine, and L-histidine) and non-essential amino acids (L-arginine, L-alanine, L-tyrosine, L-glycine, L-aspartic acid, L-proline, and L-glutamic acid), plus taurine.
You'll also find sodium and calcium as mineral contributors. The remaining ingredients—maltodextrin, xanthan gum, natural and artificial flavors, sucralose, and acesulfame potassium—are inactive fillers and flavorings.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
The product's amino acids have mixed evidence. Whey protein itself is possibly effective for athletic performance but possibly ineffective for osteoporosis and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).
L-tyrosine is possibly effective for cognitive function and memory but possibly ineffective for athletic performance. L-phenylalanine is possibly effective for vitiligo but possibly ineffective for ADHD.
L-arginine, L-lysine, and several others show insufficient evidence to rate their effectiveness for various conditions. Sodium is likely effective for cystic fibrosis and possibly effective for amphotericin B-related kidney damage, though high amounts carry cardiovascular and bone risks.
Calcium is effective for kidney failure and dyspepsia and likely effective for osteoporosis. Most of the other amino acids in this blend have insufficient or no established evidence for the conditions studied.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Whey protein is generally well tolerated by most healthy adults, though it may trigger or worsen acne in some users, and common side effects include bloating, nausea, cramps, and diarrhea. Sodium is safe in normal dietary amounts but should not be supplemented or taken in excess without medical advice—high intake is linked to high blood pressure and increased kidney and cardiovascular stress.
Calcium is generally safe at recommended doses; common mild effects are constipation and bloating, though rare serious concerns include kidney stones and calciphylaxis. L-arginine is often well tolerated short-term but can lower blood pressure and requires medical oversight for self-treatment.
L-phenylalanine should be avoided at supplement doses during pregnancy and breastfeeding; it carries caution in food amounts. L-tryptophan has a history of a contaminated-product safety scare (eosinophilia-myalgia syndrome in the 1980s) and should be avoided during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
L-tyrosine and L-glycine are generally well tolerated short-term but lack long-term safety data at supplement levels. Several amino acids (L-alanine, L-methionine, L-leucine, L-isoleucine, L-valine, L-histidine, L-proline, L-threonine, L-aspartic acid, L-serine) have insufficient or unstudied safety data for supplement use in pregnancy or breastfeeding.
Meds to double-check
Major interaction found
Before taking this product, double-check with your doctor or pharmacist if you take HIV medications like dolutegravir (Tivicay) or elvitegravir (Vitekta)—calcium can cut their blood levels by up to 40%. Similarly, check if you take levodopa for Parkinson disease, as the whey protein and phenylalanine here may worsen tremor and rigidity.
Be cautious with antihypertensive drugs (blood pressure medications), thyroid hormone (levothyroxine), lithium, CNS depressants (sedatives, sleep aids, pain relievers), antidepressants and serotonin-boosting drugs, MAOI antidepressants, ACE inhibitors, ARBs, sildenafil (Viagra), baclofen, bisphosphonates, quinolone or tetracycline antibiotics, corticosteroids, potassium-sparing diuretics, and clozapine—all have documented interactions with ingredients in this blend. Ask your healthcare provider before combining this product with any of these.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with some supporting evidence for its stated purpose. Major medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
This product is a protein and amino acid supplement aimed at athletic performance and muscle support. If you take blood pressure medications, antiretrovirals (especially dolutegravir or elvitegravir), thyroid hormone, levodopa for Parkinson disease, antidepressants, lithium, or quinolone or tetracycline antibiotics, you should check with your doctor or pharmacist before starting this product—the interactions are significant enough to require timing adjustments or dose changes.
Even if you don't take those, the sodium and calcium content may matter if you have high blood pressure, heart disease, or kidney concerns. Talk with your own healthcare provider about whether this product fits your individual health situation.

Whey Isolate Vanilla Creme by Prolab Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Whey Isolate Vanilla Creme by Prolab interacts with medications through its sodium, calcium, whey protein, L-arginine, L-phenylalanine, L-glycine, L-threonine, L-tryptophan, and L-lysine content.
The most serious interaction is a Major-severity effect: calcium can reduce dolutegravir levels by up to 40%, requiring separation of doses by 2–6 hours to maintain the HIV medication's effectiveness.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Calcium also carries Major-severity risks with elvitegravir (another HIV integrase inhibitor, which may drop by 40%) and ceftriaxone (intravenous forms can precipitate dangerous crystals in the lungs and kidneys). Whey protein and L-phenylalanine both interact with levodopa at Major severity, competing for brain transport and worsening Parkinson symptoms like tremor and rigidity.
L-threonine can theoretically decrease the effects of NMDA antagonists (used in some neurological conditions), and L-tryptophan may have additive sedation with CNS depressants at Major severity.
Moderate interactions span many drug categories: sodium can reduce blood pressure control from antihypertensives and lithium levels, and increase salt overload from corticosteroids or didanosine. Calcium reduces absorption of levothyroxine (thyroid hormone), sotalol (heart rhythm), bisphosphonates (bone), quinolone and tetracycline antibiotics, and has additive effects with diltiazem and calcipotriene.
Whey protein similarly binds quinolones, tetracyclines, and bisphosphonates. L-arginine lowers blood pressure additively with antihypertensives, ACE inhibitors, ARBs, and sildenafil, and raises potassium risk with potassium-sparing diuretics and ACE inhibitors.
L-phenylalanine competes with levodopa and baclofen, and may trigger hypertensive crisis with MAOIs. L-glycine may worsen clozapine effectiveness in schizophrenia.
L-tryptophan can add serotonergic effects with antidepressants and similar drugs. Taurine (from whey) may lower blood pressure additively and reduce lithium excretion.
Tyrosine and methionine carry theoretical moderate risks with levodopa and thyroid hormone, respectively. L-lysine has a Minor interaction with 5-HT4 agonists used for bowel motility.
Altogether, these interactions span 915 individual medications. L-leucine, L-isoleucine, L-valine, L-glutamic acid, and Alpha-Glucan Oligosaccharide could not be checked against our data.

For each ingredient in Whey Isolate Vanilla Creme with known interactions, here are the types of medications they can affect. Open any type for the detail — or search your exact drug in the checker above.
Sodium
Antihypertensive Drugs
Theoretically, a high intake of dietary sodium might reduce the effectiveness of antihypertensive drugs.
High intake of dietary sodium can increase systolic and diastolic blood pressure. Also, high intake of sodium may necessitate increased use of antihypertensive medications to achieve blood pressure control in some patients, such as those with chronic kidney disease.
Corticosteroids
Concomitant use of mineralocorticoids and some glucocorticoids with sodium supplements might increase the risk of hypernatremia.
Mineralocorticoids and some glucocorticoids (corticosteroids) cause sodium retention. This effect is dose-related and depends on mineralocorticoid potency. It is most common with hydrocortisone, cortisone, and fludrocortisone, followed by prednisone and prednisolone.
Didanosine (Videx)
Concomitant use of didanosine with additional sodium from dietary or supplemental sources may increase the risk of hypernatremia.
Didanosine formulations contain a significant amount of sodium.
Lithium
Altering dietary intake of sodium might alter the levels and clinical effects of lithium.
High sodium intake can reduce plasma concentrations of lithium by increasing lithium excretion. Reducing sodium intake can significantly increase plasma concentrations of lithium and cause lithium toxicity in patients being treated with lithium carbonate. Stabilizing sodium intake is shown to reduce the percentage of patients with lithium level fluctuations above 0.8 mEq/L. Patients taking lithium should avoid significant alterations in their dietary intake of sodium.
Sodium Phosphates
Theoretically, concomitant use of sodium phosphate with sodium supplements might increase the risk of hypernatremia.
Use of high doses (> 45 mL in 24 hours) of sodium phosphate, such as those used for bowel cleansing before surgery, can lead to serious electrolyte disturbances, including hypernatremia. The risk of hypernatremia is highest in the elderly and people with other risk factors for electrolyte disturbances.
Sodium-Containing Drugs
Concomitant use of sodium-containing drugs with additional sodium from dietary or supplemental sources may increase the risk of hypernatremia and long-term sodium-related complications.
The Chronic Disease Risk Reduction (CDRR) intake level of 2.3 grams of sodium daily indicates the intake at which it is believed that chronic disease risk increases for the apparently healthy population. Some medications contain high quantities of sodium. When used in conjunction with sodium supplements or high-sodium diets, the CDRR may be exceeded. Additionally, concomitant use may increase the risk for hypernatremia; this risk is highest in the elderly and people with other risk factors for electrolyte disturbances.
Tolvaptan (Samsca)
Theoretically, concomitant use of tolvaptan with sodium might increase the risk of hypernatremia.
Tolvaptan is a vasopressin receptor 2 antagonist that is used to increase sodium levels in patients with hyponatremia. Patients taking tolvaptan should use caution with the use of sodium salts such as sodium chloride.
Taurine
Antihypertensive Drugs
Theoretically, taurine might increase the risk of hypotension when taken with antihypertensive drugs.
Some clinical evidence suggests that taurine can reduce both systolic and diastolic blood pressure.
Lithium
Theoretically, taurine might reduce excretion and increase plasma levels of lithium.
Taurine is thought to have diuretic properties, which might reduce the excretion of lithium.
Calcium
Ceftriaxone (Rocephin)
Co-administration of intravenous calcium and ceftriaxone can result in precipitation of a ceftriaxone-calcium salt in the lungs and kidneys.
Avoid administering intravenous calcium in any form, such as parenteral nutrition or Lactated Ringers, within 48 hours of intravenous ceftriaxone. Case reports in neonates show that administering intravenous ceftriaxone and calcium can result in precipitation of a ceftriaxone-calcium salt in the lungs and kidneys. In several cases, neonates have died as a result of this interaction. So far there are no reports in adults; however, there is still concern that this interaction might occur in adults.
Dolutegravir (Tivicay)
Calcium seems to reduce levels of dolutegravir.
Advise patients to take dolutegravir either 2 hours before or 6 hours after taking calcium supplements. Pharmacokinetic research suggests that taking calcium carbonate 1200 mg concomitantly with dolutegravir 50 mg reduces plasma levels of dolutegravir by almost 40%. Calcium appears to decrease levels of dolutegravir through chelation.
Elvitegravir (Vitekta)
Calcium seems to reduce levels of elvitegravir.
Advise patients to take elvitegravir either 2 hours before or 2 hours after taking calcium supplements. Pharmacokinetic research suggests that taking calcium along with elvitegravir can reduce blood levels of elvitegravir through chelation.
Aluminum
Calcium citrate might increase aluminum absorption and toxicity. Other types of calcium do not increase aluminum absorption.
Calcium citrate can increase the absorption of aluminum when taken with aluminum hydroxide. The increase in aluminum levels may become toxic, particularly in individuals with kidney disease. However, the effect of calcium citrate on aluminum absorption is due to the citrate anion rather than calcium cation. Calcium acetate does not appear to increase aluminum absorption.
Bictegravir/Emtricitabine/Tenofovir Alafenamide (Biktarvy)
Calcium might decrease levels of bictegravir/emtricitabine/tenofovir alafenamide by reducing its absorption when taken in a fasting state.
Advise patients that bictegravir/emtricitabine/tenofovir alafenamide and calcium can be taken together if taken with food. However, if taken on an empty stomach, bictegravir/emtricitabine/tenofovir alafenamide should not be taken with, or 2 hours after, calcium containing products.
Bisphosphonates
Calcium reduces the absorption of bisphosphonates.
Advise patients to take bisphosphonates at least 30 minutes before calcium, but preferably at a different time of day. Calcium supplements decrease absorption of bisphosphonates.
Calcipotriene (Dovonex)
Taking calcipotriene with calcium might increase the risk for hypercalcemia.
Calcipotriene is a vitamin D analog used topically for psoriasis. It can be absorbed in sufficient amounts to cause systemic effects, including hypercalcemia. Theoretically, combining calcipotriene with calcium supplements might increase the risk of hypercalcemia.
Digoxin (Lanoxin)
Using intravenous calcium with digoxin might increase the risk of fatal cardiac arrhythmias.
Hypercalcemia increases the risk of fatal cardiac arrhythmias with digoxin. However, one retrospective analysis of clinical data suggests that intravenous calcium does not increase the risk of dysrhythmias or mortality in patients receiving digoxin.
Diltiazem (Cardizem, Others)
Theoretically, calcium may reduce the therapeutic effects of diltiazem.
Hypercalcemia can reduce the effectiveness of verapamil in atrial fibrillation. Theoretically, calcium might increase this risk of hypercalcemia and reduce the effectiveness of diltiazem.
Levothyroxine (Synthroid, Others)
Calcium seems to reduce the absorption and effectiveness of levothyroxine.
Advise patients to take levothyroxine and calcium supplements at least 4 hours apart. Calcium reduces levothyroxine absorption, probably by forming insoluble complexes. Calcium carbonate supplements reduce effectiveness of levothyroxine in patients with hypothyroidism.
Lithium
Theoretically, concomitant use of calcium and lithium may increase this risk of hypercalcemia.
Clinical research suggests that long-term use of lithium may cause hypercalcemia in 10% to 60% of patients. Theoretically, concomitant use of lithium and calcium supplements may further increase this risk.
Quinolone Antibiotics
Calcium seems to reduce the absorption of quinolone antibiotics.
Advise patients to take oral quinolones at least 2 hours before or 4-6 hours after calcium supplements or calcium-fortified foods. Taking calcium at the same time as oral quinolones can reduce quinolone absorption. Calcium binds to quinolones in the gut.
Raltegravir (Isentress)
Calcium may reduce levels of raltegravir.
Pharmacokinetic research shows that taking a single dose of calcium carbonate 3000 mg along with raltegravir 400 mg twice daily modestly decreases the mean area under the curve of raltegravir, but the decrease does not necessitate a dose adjustment of raltegravir. However, a case of elevated HIV-1 RNA levels and documented resistance to raltegravir has been reported for a patient taking calcium carbonate 1 gram three times daily plus vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol) 400 IU three times daily in combination with raltegravir 400 mg twice daily for 11 months. It is thought that calcium reduced raltegravir levels by chelation, leading to treatment failure.
Sotalol (Betapace)
Calcium seems to reduce the absorption of sotalol.
Advise patients to separate doses by at least 2 hours before or 4-6 hours after calcium. Calcium appears to reduce the absorption of sotalol, probably by forming insoluble complexes.
Tetracycline Antibiotics
Calcium seems to reduce the absorption of tetracycline antibiotics.
Advise patients to take oral tetracyclines at least 2 hours before, or 4-6 hours after calcium supplements. Taking calcium at the same time as oral tetracyclines can reduce tetracycline absorption. Calcium binds to tetracyclines in the gut.
Thiazide Diuretics
Taking calcium along with thiazides might increase the risk of hypercalcemia and renal failure.
Thiazides reduce calcium excretion by the kidneys. Using thiazides along with moderately large amounts of calcium carbonate increases the risk of milk-alkali syndrome (hypercalcemia, metabolic alkalosis, renal failure). Patients may need to have their serum calcium levels and/or parathyroid function monitored regularly.
Verapamil (Calan, Others)
Theoretically, calcium may reduce the therapeutic effects of verapamil.
Hypercalcemia can reduce the effectiveness of verapamil in atrial fibrillation. Theoretically, use of calcium supplements may increase this risk of hypercalcemia and reduce the effectiveness of verapamil.
Calcium Channel Blockers
Intravenous calcium may decrease the effects of calcium channel blockers; oral calcium is unlikely to have this effect.
Intravenous calcium is used to decrease the effects of calcium channel blockers in the management of overdose. Intravenous calcium gluconate has been used before intravenous verapamil (Isoptin) to prevent or reduce the hypotensive effects without affecting the antiarrhythmic effects. But there is no evidence that dietary or supplemental calcium when taken orally interacts with calcium channel blockers.
Whey Protein Isolate
Levodopa
Theoretically, whey protein might decrease levodopa absorption.
Small clinical studies show that concomitant ingestion of protein or high doses of leucine or isoleucine (100 mg/kg) and levodopa can exacerbate tremor, rigidity, and the "on-off" syndrome in patients with Parkinson disease.
Bisphosphonates
Theoretically, whey protein might reduce the absorption of bisphosphonates.
Whey protein contains minerals such as calcium that bind bisphosphonates in the gut. Advise patients to take bisphosphonates at least 30 minutes before whey protein, but preferably at a different time of day.
Quinolone Antibiotics
Theoretically, whey protein might decrease quinolone absorption.
Whey protein contains minerals, such as calcium, that can bind to quinolones in the gut. To avoid this interaction, advise patients to take oral quinolones at least 2 hours before or 4-6 hours after whey protein.
Tetracycline Antibiotics
Theoretically, whey protein might decrease tetracycline absorption.
Whey protein contains minerals, such as calcium, that bind to tetracyclines in the gut. To avoid this interaction, advise patients to take oral tetracyclines at least 2 hours before or 4-6 hours after whey protein.
