Every active ingredient lists its own amount on the label.

Why this rating?
  • The label discloses an exact amount for 1 of its 1 active ingredient.
  • No proprietary blends here — you can verify the dose of every single component.

This product contains one active ingredient: white mulberry leaf extract in powder form. It's designed to be taken as a concentrated supplement.

The inactive ingredient list is empty — there are no fillers, binders, or other additives.

Evidence for Intended Use · database check
By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed
Not established

The graded evidence we hold for these ingredients covers different conditions than the ones this product is marketed for, so there's no established rating for its stated use — see White Mulberry's own graded uses on its monograph.

Why this rating?
  • The label markets this product for: blood sugar and cholesterol support.
  • We looked for evidence on: Diabetes, Hyperlipidemia, Impaired glucose tolerance (prediabetes), Hyperglycemia, Dyslipidemia.
  • The closest evidence on file: White Mulberry is rated "Insufficient Reliable Evidence To Rate" for Diabetes (Natural Medicines).
  • Also on file: White Mulberry is rated "Insufficient Reliable Evidence To Rate" for Hyperlipidemia, Impaired glucose tolerance (prediabetes).

The evidence for white mulberry leaf isn't established for the conditions it's marketed for. Our data shows insufficient reliable evidence to rate it for androgenic alopecia (hair loss), osteoporosis, the common cold, diabetes, and high cholesterol.

While some research suggests it can lower blood sugar, that alone doesn't prove it works as a diabetes treatment or preventive.

How safe is it?

Well-documented data
Safety Information · database check
Well characterized

Adverse-effect, pregnancy, and general safety data are on file for most of these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • We hold adverse-effect (side-effect) data for 1 of the 1 matched ingredient.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 1 of 1.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 1 of 1.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

White mulberry leaf seems well tolerated when taken by mouth, but you should know what to expect. In clinical trials, digestive side effects were common: about half of people experienced bloating and gas, a quarter had loose stools, and one-fifth had constipation.

The good news is these effects often eased over time. Because concentrated supplements are less studied than the whole food, and because of the blood-sugar effect, the safety data advises against taking medicinal amounts during pregnancy or breastfeeding — there isn't enough information to say it's safe in those situations.

Talk with your doctor or pharmacist for personalized advice if you're pregnant or nursing.

Moderate identified

The most serious documented interaction for these ingredients is Moderate. Check your medications for a personalized result.

Why this rating?
  • 1 of the 1 matched ingredient can interact with medications — White Mulberry.
  • The most serious interaction on file is rated Moderate.
  • Some involve high-stakes drug classes: diabetes medications.
  • For scale: 87 individual medications appear in the full list. A big number alone doesn't make a product dangerous — what matters is whether YOUR medication is on it, so run yours through the interaction checker on this page.

Before you take this product, double-check with your doctor or pharmacist if you're on any diabetes medications — white mulberry can lower your blood sugar and may need dose adjustment. Also check if you take any OCT2 substrates, particularly metformin; white mulberry may slow how your kidneys clear these drugs.

The bottom line

Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no established evidence rating for its marketed use. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.

White mulberry leaf extract is worth considering if you're looking into blood-sugar support, but the evidence for its benefits isn't yet solid. If you take diabetes medications or certain kidney-transport drugs, you'll need to check with your doctor or pharmacist before starting — your dose may need adjusting, and your blood sugar will need close watching.

Be ready for digestive side effects early on, though they often settle down.

Organic Cation Transporter 2 (Oct2) Substrates

Theoretically, white mulberry leaf might slow the elimination and increase the adverse effects of drugs which are OCT2 substrates.
Animal research shows that coadministration of white mulberry leaf extract with metformin, an OCT2 substrate, slows the renal elimination of metformin via inhibition of OCT2 activity. OCT2 is expressed in the kidneys and is responsible for transporting cationic drugs into tubular epithelial cells in order to be excreted in the urine.

White Mulberry Extract by BulkSupplements.com: Common Questions

Does White Mulberry Extract by BulkSupplements.com interact with any medications?
Yes. Based on its ingredients, White Mulberry Extract has a known interaction with 87 medications. Use the checker to see how it interacts with a specific drug.
How can one product interact with so many drugs?
White Mulberry Extract contains a single active ingredient, and that one ingredient can interact with many different medications on its own. We check it against each medication and show the mechanism responsible.
Where does this information come from?
The product label data comes from the NIH Dietary Supplement Label Database (DSLD); the interaction data is built on the Natural Medicines database and reviewed by HelloPharmacist pharmacists.
Will white mulberry extract lower my blood sugar?
Clinical research shows that white mulberry leaf can lower blood glucose levels. If you're diabetic or prediabetic, that's something you need to monitor closely, especially if you're also on diabetes medication. Talk with your doctor before you start.
What side effects should I expect?
Digestive side effects are most common: bloating, gas, loose stools, and constipation. In one study, about half the people had bloating and gas in the first few weeks, but these effects often got better over time, so they may be temporary for you.
Is white mulberry leaf safe to take during pregnancy?
There isn't enough safety data to recommend medicinal amounts of white mulberry during pregnancy. Talk with your doctor or pharmacist about whether this supplement is right for you right now.
Is it safe while breastfeeding?
The safety data is insufficient for breastfeeding as well — there's not enough research to say it's safe in medicinal amounts. Discuss this with your doctor or pharmacist if you're nursing and want to take it.
Does white mulberry extract actually work for diabetes?
The evidence isn't established yet. While research shows it can lower blood glucose, we don't have enough reliable evidence to say it works as a treatment or preventive for diabetes itself. It may be a supporting tool if your doctor agrees, but it shouldn't replace your prescribed medication.
What's in this product besides the active ingredient?
Just the white mulberry leaf extract powder — there are no fillers, binders, or inactive ingredients added.
