What’s inside
Full disclosure
Xcellent A 3000 contains one active ingredient: vitamin A. The supplement includes inactive ingredients (cellulose, hypromellose, water, ascorbyl palmitate, and silica) that serve as the capsule and binding material.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
Vitamin A is effective for treating vitamin A deficiency. The evidence also suggests it's possibly effective for oral leukoplakia (precancerous mouth patches), aging skin, measles, ulcerative colitis, and bronchopulmonary dysplasia — though the strength of that evidence varies.
For uses beyond deficiency, talk with your doctor about whether this supplement fits your situation.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Vitamin A is generally well tolerated when you take it in normal recommended doses. High doses, however, build up in your body over time and can turn toxic — causing headache, dizziness, blurred vision, dry and cracking skin, hair loss, liver damage, and in rare cases very serious effects like pseudotumor cerebri or even coma.
Pregnant people should avoid high-dose vitamin A supplements, as the safety data shows it's possibly unsafe in pregnancy and can cause birth defects; normal dietary amounts and recommended supplement doses are appropriate. During breastfeeding, the same caution applies — stick to normal amounts unless your clinician directs otherwise.
Meds to double-check
Major interaction found
Before you start, double-check if you're taking any retinoid drugs (Major severity) — these include tretinoin, isotretinoin, and adapalene. Also flag warfarin or other blood thinners, any medication that can hurt your liver, and tetracycline antibiotics like doxycycline — all carry Moderate-severity risks with high-dose vitamin A.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with some supporting evidence for its stated purpose. Major medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Xcellent A 3000 works well if you have a vitamin A deficiency or are taking it under medical direction for a specific condition. If you're on a retinoid drug (like tretinoin or isotretinoin), a blood thinner, or a tetracycline antibiotic, you need to check with your pharmacist first.
And remember — more isn't better with this vitamin; stick to the dose on the label, especially if you're pregnant or planning to be.

Xcellent A 3000 by XYMOGEN Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Xcellent A 3000 by XYMOGEN is a single-ingredient vitamin A supplement, and it does interact with several medication types — most seriously with retinoids (vitamin A derivatives used for skin conditions and other purposes).
Taking vitamin A supplements together with retinoid drugs can cause dangerously high vitamin A levels in your body, with the potential for toxic effects. This is a Major-severity interaction.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Moderate interactions exist with blood thinners like warfarin, where high-dose vitamin A may increase bleeding risk; hepatotoxic drugs (medications that can stress the liver), where vitamin A at high doses could compound liver damage; and tetracycline antibiotics, which can raise the risk of a serious condition called pseudotumor cerebri (a buildup of pressure inside the skull) when combined with high-dose vitamin A.
Altogether, these interactions span 371 individual medications. Because the risk depends on the dose you're taking, check your exact medications with the tool on this page before you start — especially if you're on a retinoid, blood thinner, or tetracycline antibiotic.

For each ingredient in Xcellent A 3000 with known interactions, here are the types of medications it can affect. Open any type for the detail — or search your exact drug in the checker above.
Vitamin A
Retinoids
Concomitant use of retinoids with vitamin A supplements might produce supratherapeutic vitamin A levels.
Retinoids, which are vitamin A derivatives, could have additive toxic effects when taken with vitamin A supplements.
Hepatotoxic Drugs
Theoretically, taking high doses of vitamin A in combination with other potentially hepatotoxic drugs might increase the risk of liver disease.
The tolerable upper intake level (UL) is the highest level of intake that is likely to pose no risk of adverse effects. Doses of vitamin A above the UL can cause hepatotoxicity, ranging from elevated liver enzymes to liver failure.
Tetracycline Antibiotics
Theoretically, taking tetracycline antibiotics with high doses of vitamin A can increase the risk of pseudotumor cerebri.
Benign intracranial hypertension (pseudotumor cerebri) can occur with tetracyclines and with acute or chronic vitamin A toxicity. Case reports suggest that taking tetracyclines and vitamin A concurrently can increase the risk of this condition. Avoid high doses of vitamin A in people taking tetracyclines chronically.
Warfarin (Coumadin)
Theoretically, high doses of vitamin A could increase the risk of bleeding with warfarin.
Vitamin A toxicity is associated with hemorrhage and hypoprothrombinemia, possibly due to vitamin K antagonism. Advise patients taking warfarin to avoid doses of vitamin A above the tolerable upper intake level of 10,000 IU/day for adults.
