The hypoglycemic potential of glimepiride may be increased with concomitant fluoxetine therapy. The mechanism of this interaction is unknown. During concurrent therapy, monitor blood glucose levels closely and observe for signs and symptoms of hypoglycemia (eg, fatigue, restlessness, malaise, irritability, weakness, increased perspiration). Lower doses of glimepiride may be required to avoid excessive hypoglycemia. When fluoxetine therapy is withdrawn, careful monitoring of the patient is recommended to observe for loss of glucose control1.
