4-androsterone and Imipramine

We checked these two against our interaction database. Here is what we found.

No Known Interaction Found

We did not find a documented interaction between Imipramine and 4-androsterone in our sources. This does not guarantee that the combination is completely free of risk — there is often limited research on supplements and herbal products, especially around drug interactions.

If you decide to take both, the practical routine is simple: add one new thing at a time and note the date you started it. If the combination is going to disagree with you, it usually shows in the first days to a couple of weeks — and a start date turns “I’ve been feeling off” into something a pharmacist can actually work with. Do not stop a prescribed medicine on your own.

Always talk with your pharmacist or doctor before making changes to your medications or supplements, particularly if you take several medications or have an ongoing health condition.

How we checked

Why No Interaction Is Listed for Imipramine

Interactions in our licensed database are recorded against drug classes, not just single drug names. Imipramine is filed under 15 classifications — including tricyclic antidepressants (tcas), antidepressant drugs, cytochrome p450 2c19 (cyp2c19) substrates. 4-androsterone has documented interactions with 1 drug class — the most serious being testosterone (moderate) — and none of Imipramine’s classifications are among them.

Classification data comes from our licensed Natural Medicines dataset. A medication can belong to classes beyond those recorded there, so this describes how the check was run — it is not a safety guarantee.

What to actually watch for

What 4-androsterone Itself Has Been Linked To

This is not an interaction — nothing below involves Imipramine. It is the side-effect record for 4-androsterone on its own, from the licensed Natural Medicines monograph. If something new turns up after you add 4-androsterone, this list is the first place to look. One entry is worth acting on rather than waiting out — marked below.

  • Kidney problems / Liver problems Worth acting on Additional detail

“There is insufficient information available about adverse effects associated with 4-androsterone. It is purported that 4-androsterone is metabolized to anabolic compounds. Therefore, in theory, there is concern that it might cause serious anabolic steroid-like side effects including stroke, kidney failure, and liver injury.”

Everything above comes from the Natural Medicines adverse-effect record for 4-androsterone — expand a row for the licensed statement it rests on. We read the ADVERSE REACTIONS section of Imipramine’s FDA label too, and the two lists don’t meaningfully overlap — which is why no Imipramine column appears here.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Imipramine page

“Imipramine (Tofranil) is an older tricyclic antidepressant, and the supplements on this page deserve real scrutiny before you add one. Most of the list acts on the liver enzymes that process the drug, so an ingredient can quietly raise or lower imipramine levels: grapefruit pushes them up, while St.”

About 4-androsterone

What is 4-androsterone?

  • Muscle building
  • Strength and athletic performance
  • Boosting testosterone
  • Bodybuilding cycles

4-Androsterone (sometimes called 4-DHEA) is a lab-made prohormone marketed to bodybuilders as a way to raise testosterone and build muscle, but human studies are very limited and it carries real risks like liver strain, hormone imbalance, and cholesterol changes. Its legal status is uncertain in many places, and it may cause a positive result on drug tests. We do not recommend it without close medical supervision, and it should be avoided in pregnancy and breastfeeding.

Synthetic steroidal compound (not a plant part) · Capsules, tablets, transdermal gels or creams, liquid drops

An interaction check asks whether these two react with each other — it does not ask whether 4-androsterone is a good idea for someone in your situation. Here is what our 4-androsterone record says about it on its own.

4-androsterone: dosing

There is no established, medically recommended dose for 4-androsterone. Doses used in bodybuilding come from product labels and informal community advice, not from rigorous clinical research.Because purity and strength can vary between products and the risks are significant, we cannot recommend a specific amount. Never assume that a higher dose is safer or more effective.

About Imipramine

What Is Imipramine Used For?

Brand names: Tofranil, Tofranil PM

Imipramine is used to relieve symptoms of depression. Both Imipramine Hydrochloride tablets and Imipramine Pamoate capsules are approved for this use. Endogenous depression — the kind that seems to arise from within rather than a clear outside cause — tends to respond especially well. It may take one to three weeks before you notice the full benefit.

Imipramine Hydrochloride tablets are also approved as a short-term, add-on treatment to help reduce nighttime bedwetting (nocturnal enuresis) in children aged 6 and older, after a doctor has ruled out physical causes.
