4-androsterone + Trospium

Trospium brand names: Sanctura, Trosec, Regurin.

No Known Interaction
The bottom line No known interaction

We found no known interaction between 4-androsterone and Trospium in our sources. Absence of a documented interaction is not the same as proven safety, and does not guarantee one does not exist. Do not start, stop, or change a medication or supplement based on this page; confirm with your pharmacist or doctor first. Additionally, although there is no interaction, the label for Trospium states a food rule worth keeping to.

4-androsterone and Trospium

We checked these two against our interaction database. Here is what we found.

No Known Interaction Found

We did not find a documented interaction between Trospium and 4-androsterone in our sources. This does not guarantee that the combination is completely free of risk — there is often limited research on supplements and herbal products, especially around drug interactions.

If you decide to take both, the practical routine is simple: add one new thing at a time and note the date you started it. If the combination is going to disagree with you, it usually shows in the first days to a couple of weeks — and a start date turns “I’ve been feeling off” into something a pharmacist can actually work with. Do not stop a prescribed medicine on your own.

Always talk with your pharmacist or doctor before making changes to your medications or supplements, particularly if you take several medications or have an ongoing health condition.

How we checked

Why No Interaction Is Listed for Trospium

Interactions in our licensed database are recorded against drug classes, not just single drug names. Trospium is filed under 3 classifications — urinary acidifying agents, anticholinergic drugs, oral drugs. 4-androsterone has documented interactions with 1 drug class — the most serious being testosterone (moderate) — and none of Trospium’s classifications are among them.

Classification data comes from our licensed Natural Medicines dataset. A medication can belong to classes beyond those recorded there, so this describes how the check was run — it is not a safety guarantee.

What to actually watch for

What 4-androsterone Itself Has Been Linked To

This is not an interaction — nothing below involves Trospium. It is the side-effect record for 4-androsterone on its own, from the licensed Natural Medicines monograph. If something new turns up after you add 4-androsterone, this list is the first place to look. One entry is worth acting on rather than waiting out — marked below.

  • Kidney problems / Liver problems Worth acting on Additional detail

“There is insufficient information available about adverse effects associated with 4-androsterone. It is purported that 4-androsterone is metabolized to anabolic compounds. Therefore, in theory, there is concern that it might cause serious anabolic steroid-like side effects including stroke, kidney failure, and liver injury.”

Everything above comes from the Natural Medicines adverse-effect record for 4-androsterone — expand a row for the licensed statement it rests on. We read the ADVERSE REACTIONS section of Trospium’s FDA label too, and the two lists don’t meaningfully overlap — which is why no Trospium column appears here.

How to take them

Some Trospium Products Have a Food Rule — 4-androsterone Should Not Break It

At least one FDA label for a product containing Trospium says to take it on an empty stomach. Most supplements — 4-androsterone included — are taken with a meal, so the easy mistake is swallowing both together at breakfast. Where that rule applies, keep Trospium on its own and move 4-androsterone to a meal later in the day.

This may not be true of your version. Food instructions belong to the product, not the ingredient: two Trospium products can carry different directions, and extended-release forms often differ from immediate-release ones. The label we read is quoted below — check the directions on your own box or bottle, or ask your pharmacist, for how to take the exact product you were given.

Trospium Chloride Extended-Release Capsules should be dosed with water on an empty stomach, at least one hour before a meal.

From the Dosage and Administration section of the FDA label we read for Trospium — where that label names a specific product, the instruction is that product's. See the Trospium drug page ›

A food rule is not an interaction — it is about how much of the medicine you absorb. The directions that came with your own product, and your pharmacist, outrank anything on this page.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Trospium page

“Trospium (Sanctura, Regurin) calms an overactive bladder by blocking acetylcholine, and most of the 47 supplements flagged against it press on that same nerve signal. Thirty carry anticholinergic activity of their own, adding dry mouth, constipation, blurred vision, and confusion, and two of the three major ratings sit in that group: h…”

About 4-androsterone

What is 4-androsterone?

  • Muscle building
  • Strength and athletic performance
  • Boosting testosterone
  • Bodybuilding cycles

4-Androsterone (sometimes called 4-DHEA) is a lab-made prohormone marketed to bodybuilders as a way to raise testosterone and build muscle, but human studies are very limited and it carries real risks like liver strain, hormone imbalance, and cholesterol changes. Its legal status is uncertain in many places, and it may cause a positive result on drug tests. We do not recommend it without close medical supervision, and it should be avoided in pregnancy and breastfeeding.

Synthetic steroidal compound (not a plant part) · Capsules, tablets, transdermal gels or creams, liquid drops

An interaction check asks whether these two react with each other — it does not ask whether 4-androsterone is a good idea for someone in your situation. Here is what our 4-androsterone record says about it on its own.

4-androsterone: dosing

There is no established, medically recommended dose for 4-androsterone. Doses used in bodybuilding come from product labels and informal community advice, not from rigorous clinical research.Because purity and strength can vary between products and the risks are significant, we cannot recommend a specific amount. Never assume that a higher dose is safer or more effective.

About Trospium

What Is Trospium Used For?

Brand names: Sanctura, Trosec, Regurin

Trospium — available as tablets and extended-release capsules — is used to treat overactive bladder (OAB). It targets three main symptoms: the sudden, hard-to-control urge to urinate (urgency), leaking urine when that urge hits (urge urinary incontinence), and needing to urinate much more often than usual (urinary frequency).

Both Trospium Chloride Tablets and Trospium Chloride Extended-Release Capsules carry this indication. Your prescriber will choose the formulation that fits your schedule and health history.
