Dr. Brian Staiger explains PharmD, Clinical Pharmacist

Here's the thing to keep in mind with this combo. Your product contains phenylephrine and phenylpropanolamine, which are decongestants that work by tightening blood vessels, and that can naturally nudge up your blood pressure and heart rate. Acacia rigidula products may contain stimulant-like amines (and some have even been found spiked with an unapproved stimulant called BMPEA). Stacking two stimulating ingredients together could add up.

So the worry is extra cardiovascular strain: a racing or pounding heart, higher blood pressure, jitteriness, or trouble sleeping. This is a theoretical concern based on how these ingredients act, not hard proof, but it's a reasonable one. I'd honestly skip the Acacia product, but please run it by your pharmacist or doctor first before changing anything.

About Acacia Rigidula

What is Acacia Rigidula?

Acacia Rigidula
  • Weight loss
  • Energy and stimulation
  • Boosting metabolism
  • Appetite control
  • Pre-workout/athletic performance

Acacia rigidula is a shrub from Texas and Mexico that is marketed in weight-loss and energy supplements. There is very little reliable human evidence that it works, and some products have been found to contain an unapproved stimulant drug (BMPEA), which raises real safety concerns. Most people should avoid it and talk to a pharmacist or doctor before trying any product containing it.
