Citalopram falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Acacia Rigidula interacts with.

Theoretically, Acacia rigidula products that are adulterated with beta-methylphenylethylamine (BMPEA) might increase the levels of CYP3A4 substrates.
In vitro research shows that BMPEA, an adulterant found in many Acacia rigidula products, inhibits CYP3A4 enzyme by 37%.

Here's the gist for Celexa (citalopram): your liver uses an enzyme called CYP3A4 to help clear this medicine out of your system. Some Acacia rigidula products are spiked with a hidden stimulant called BMPEA, and lab studies suggest BMPEA can slow that enzyme down a bit. In theory, that could let citalopram build up slightly, which might mean more of its usual side effects like nausea, drowsiness, dry mouth, or jitteriness.

I'll be honest with you though, this is only based on test-tube research, so it's a weak, theoretical concern. The bigger worry is the stimulant amines in these products themselves, which can rev up serotonin and add to citalopram's effects. Citalopram already carries a dose-related heart rhythm caution, so please run this by your pharmacist or doctor before mixing them.

What Is Citalopram Used For?

Brand name: Celexa

Citalopram — available as tablets (including brand Celexa), oral solution, and capsules — is used to treat major depressive disorder (MDD) in adults. This includes depression that causes persistent low mood, loss of interest in everyday activities, changes in sleep or appetite, fatigue, and difficulty concentrating.

Citalopram capsules are specifically indicated for adults with MDD but are not intended for starting or stopping treatment — another citalopram product must be used for dose titration. All forms are indicated for adults only; citalopram tablets are not approved for use in children.
