Why this applies to Naloxegol

Naloxegol falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Acacia Rigidula interacts with.

Theoretically, Acacia rigidula products that are adulterated with beta-methylphenylethylamine (BMPEA) might increase the levels of CYP3A4 substrates.
In vitro research shows that BMPEA, an adulterant found in many Acacia rigidula products, inhibits CYP3A4 enzyme by 37%.

Here's the gist with Movantik (naloxegol): your body clears it using a liver enzyme called CYP3A4. Some Acacia rigidula products have been found spiked with a stimulant called BMPEA, and lab studies (not human studies) suggest BMPEA can partly block that same enzyme. If that happens, naloxegol could clear more slowly and build up in your system.

Naloxegol isn't a prodrug, so higher levels would mean stronger effects. Practically, that could mean more belly cramping, diarrhea, gas, or nausea. This is theoretical and based only on test-tube data, so I don't want to alarm you. Still, given the stimulant safety concerns with these products, please check with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them.

What Is Naloxegol Used For?

Brand name: Movantik

Movantik (naloxegol) is used to treat opioid-induced constipation (OIC) — constipation caused by opioid pain medications — in adults who have chronic non-cancer pain. It is also approved for adults with chronic pain related to prior cancer or its treatment, as long as they don't need frequent (roughly weekly) increases in their opioid dose.

It is not indicated for constipation from other causes, and it is not approved for use in children.
