Here's the situation with oxymetazoline (Afrin, Rhofade, Upneeq). It's a vasoconstrictor, meaning it tightens blood vessels by acting on the same kind of nerve receptors that adrenaline-type chemicals hit. Acacia rigidula may contain natural stimulant amines (and some products have even been spiked with an unapproved stimulant), so stacking the two could, in theory, add up to more of that stimulant-like push on your heart and blood vessels.

What that might look like in real life is a faster or pounding heartbeat, jitteriness, or a bump in blood pressure. To be honest, this concern is theoretical and based on how these substances work, not on solid studies, so I don't want to scare you. Still, given the safety questions around acacia products, I'd run it by your pharmacist or doctor before combining them.

What Is Oxymetazoline Topical Used For?

Brand names: Afrin, Rhofade, Upneeq

Rhofade (oxymetazoline hydrochloride cream, 1%) is approved to treat persistent facial erythema (redness) associated with rosacea in adults. It is applied directly to the face once daily.

Other oxymetazoline topical products — including Afrin spray and Medix Nasal Decongestant Oxymetazoline Hydrochloride and Tukol Max Action solutions — are available for nasal use. Uses for those products are not covered in the current prescribing information provided here.
