Why this applies to Sorafenib

Sorafenib falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Acacia Rigidula interacts with.

Theoretically, Acacia rigidula products that are adulterated with beta-methylphenylethylamine (BMPEA) might increase the levels of CYP3A4 substrates.
In vitro research shows that BMPEA, an adulterant found in many Acacia rigidula products, inhibits CYP3A4 enzyme by 37%.

Your body relies on a liver enzyme called CYP3A4 to help clear sorafenib (Nexavar). Some Acacia rigidula products have been found to contain a stimulant called BMPEA, and lab studies suggest BMPEA can slow this enzyme down by about a third. If that happened in a person, sorafenib could build up in the body and lead to stronger side effects, things like high blood pressure, hand-foot skin reactions, diarrhea, fatigue, or a rash.

I want to be honest with you though: this is only a theoretical concern based on test-tube research, not human studies. Even so, sorafenib is a serious cancer medicine, and these supplements are often poorly made or adulterated. I'd steer clear and check with your oncologist or pharmacist before adding anything.

Acacia rigidula is a shrub from Texas and Mexico that is marketed in weight-loss and energy supplements. About Sorafenib

What Is Sorafenib Used For?

Brand name: Nexavar

Sorafenib tablets are approved to treat three types of cancer. The first is unresectable hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) — liver cancer that cannot be removed with surgery. The second is advanced renal cell carcinoma (RCC) — kidney cancer that has spread or progressed. Both the brand Nexavar and generic sorafenib tablets are approved for these two uses.

The third use is for locally recurrent or metastatic, progressive differentiated thyroid carcinoma (DTC) — thyroid cancer that has spread or worsened and no longer responds to radioactive iodine treatment. Nexavar and sorafenib tablets are both approved for this use as well.
