Tamoxifen Citrate falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2D6 (CYP2D6) SUBSTRATES — the group Acacia Rigidula interacts with.

Theoretically, Acacia rigidula products that are adulterated with beta-methylphenylethylamine (BMPEA) might increase the levels of CYP2D6 substrates.
In vitro research shows that BMPEA, an adulterant found in many Acacia rigidula products, strongly inhibits CYP2D6 enzyme.

Here's the wrinkle with tamoxifen: it's actually a prodrug. Your body has to convert it into its active form, called endoxifen, and the enzyme CYP2D6 does most of that work. That conversion is what gives tamoxifen its cancer-fighting punch.

Some Acacia rigidula products have been found spiked with a stimulant called BMPEA, and lab studies suggest BMPEA can block CYP2D6. If that happens, your body may make less active endoxifen, which could mean tamoxifen works less well, exactly what you don't want during breast cancer treatment. Keep in mind this is theoretical, based only on test-tube data. Still, given what's at stake, I'd steer clear of these products and talk with your oncologist or pharmacist first.

Here's the wrinkle with tamoxifen: it's actually a prodrug. Your body has to convert it into its active form (mostly through liver enzymes) before it does its cancer-fighting work. CYP3A4 is one of the enzymes involved in handling tamoxifen, so anything that blocks it could shift how the drug is processed.

Some Acacia rigidula products have been found spiked with a stimulant called BMPEA, and in lab dish studies that compound slowed CYP3A4 by about a third. The honest truth is this is only test-tube data, so we can't say what it does in a real person taking tamoxifen. Because tamoxifen matters so much for your treatment, and these supplements carry their own safety baggage, please run it by your oncologist or pharmacist before trying it.

Acacia rigidula is a shrub from Texas and Mexico that is marketed in weight-loss and energy supplements. There is very little reliable human evidence that it works, and some products have been found to contain an unapproved stimulant drug (BMPEA), which raises real safety concerns. About Tamoxifen

What Is Tamoxifen Used For?

Brand names: Nolvadex, Soltamox

Tamoxifen is used to treat metastatic breast cancer (breast cancer that has spread) in both women and men, and as adjuvant (after-surgery) therapy for early-stage breast cancer in women. It also reduces the occurrence of cancer in the opposite breast when used as adjuvant therapy.

In women with ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS) — a very early, non-invasive form of breast cancer — tamoxifen is used after breast surgery and radiation to reduce the risk of developing invasive breast cancer. It is also approved to reduce the incidence of breast cancer in women who are at high risk but have not yet been diagnosed. Soltamox (oral solution) is specifically indicated for all of these uses in adult patients.
