Theoretically, Acacia rigidula products that are adulterated with beta-methylphenylethylamine (BMPEA) might increase the levels of CYP2D6 substrates.
In vitro research shows that BMPEA, an adulterant found in many Acacia rigidula products, strongly inhibits CYP2D6 enzyme.

Here's the gist for your Ingrezza (valbenazine). Some Acacia rigidula products have been found spiked with a hidden stimulant called BMPEA, and lab tests suggest BMPEA can block an enzyme called CYP2D6. Valbenazine partly relies on that same enzyme to be cleared from your body, so if it's blocked, levels of the drug could creep up.

In plain terms, that might mean stronger side effects like sleepiness, dizziness, or a faster or irregular heartbeat (your prescriber may even check your QT interval). To be honest, this is only a theoretical, test-tube finding, not something proven in people, so I don't want to alarm you. Still, given the safety questions around these supplements, please check with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them.

Here's the situation with Ingrezza (valbenazine) and Acacia rigidula. Your liver uses an enzyme called CYP3A4 to break down valbenazine. Some Acacia rigidula products have been found spiked with a stimulant called BMPEA, and lab testing suggests BMPEA can slow that same enzyme down by about a third. If valbenazine clears more slowly, more of it can build up in your system, which may mean stronger effects and more side effects like sleepiness, dizziness, or in some cases changes to your heart's rhythm (QT prolongation).

I want to be honest about the evidence though. This is only test-tube data, not proven in real people, so it's theoretical. That said, Acacia rigidula is a product I'd steer clear of anyway because of the hidden stimulants. Please check with your pharmacist or doctor before mixing the two.

Valbenazine — sold as Ingrezza and INGREZZA Sprinkle — is approved for two conditions in adults. The first is tardive dyskinesia, a movement disorder that causes uncontrolled, repetitive facial or body movements, often brought on by long-term use of certain psychiatric medications. The second is chorea associated with Huntington's disease, which refers to the involuntary, dance-like jerking movements that are a hallmark of that condition.

Both Ingrezza and INGREZZA Sprinkle are approved for both of these uses.
